"That's just your opinion"/"in my opinion"

NO! Stop it. Fuck you.

Anything a human says is opinion. Even facts, when filtered through human perception/communication, are opinion. This is a completely unacceptable redundancy, that is just an excuse to devalue each other's points, without the use of evidence. Anyone that says in my opinion, is doing a disservice to the whole human race, by letting others get away with this attitude.

What about mathematical statements? Is it an opinion that 2+2=4?

 

I sometimes say "In my opinion" because that is just what I think and I don't want to bring up things to support what I think because I think I can think what I want to think without having to do that.

I don't think everything I say has to come with evidence. It's interesting to me to hear other people's points of view on certain subjects, but to try to make everyone have the same "opinion" is just ridiculous, but I feel that's what some do.

Say the sky is blue, but I don't think the sky is blue. Then you try your hardest to convince me it's blue. Why would it matter? It's blue. Nothing will change.

 

You misunderstood. I am saying that people use "opinion" as a way to dismiss, without evidence.

I'm saying that it should be understood that anything that anyone says is opinion.

Wow you sound like a religious nut IMO in this post. The thing about facts, is that they are true no matter if you believe in them or not.

 

Facts are facts, opinions are opinions. The problem lies in not differentiating the two.

Why would you validate someone being so dismissive? If someone retorts that to something I've put some effort into laying out I invariably cease to interact with them since they don't place enough value in their own point of view to offer something with more substance why should I give it any credence?

Sometimes people do it just to push buttons. You've demonstrated quite nicely how effective that can be.

 

What is the fact to me without the ability to describe it?
