"shes Leacing Home"...Awsome song What the hell is it about...and what inspired Paul and John to write it?
Well, I see it as a girl who has grown up in a *nice* family that bought her nice things and whatnot, but they never actually gave her what she really wanted: love. So, she leaves home to find love. That's how I see it, but I'm not sure how Lennon/McCartney saw it.
That is a very underappreciated song off of that very overrated album. I really like the vocals on that track.
i think paul read a article in the newspaper about some girl who left home for san francisco (dirty little hippie trend), and decided to write a song loosely based on the article.
I always thought similar to that. good song, like it very much. And I will disagree with Pressed_Rat that Sgt.Pepper is an overrated album. I could sing you that album off by heart, as I have loved it dearly since I was maybe five years old, the only old music I listened to at the time. I had kind of abondoned it, until recently when I re-discovered it, and was surprised at how good it was. Of course, when I was much younger, I didn't get the concept at all, and didn't know I was listen ing to the Beatles, or didn't understand what the Beatles were, all I knew was it was great music and I love every song, except for the track (it's #10 on the CD release) that sings, "Lovely Rita, meter maid..." I'm not sure why, but I never liked the song much at all it is the only song I ever skip. However, the album remains one of my favorites to this day, and I like it just as much, if not more, than Abbey Road. anywaays.... ~!~
Heh I like Lovely Rita... McCartney does a decent job of imitating Lennon's vocal style. And yea, I think Pepper has been bashed enough times for being "overrated" that it's even underrated now. I think it's a brilliant album. I like Abbey Road and Revolver better but Pepper is still a classic.
She's Leaving Home is such a beautiful song! The melody is perfect, and the lyrics very much of their time. I guess it is about what LuciferSam said already. Could be about an article Paul read in a newspaper, too, I don't really know. I have a book called "Revolution - The Beatles" by this French journalist and Beatles specialist that lists every Beatles song and tells what they're about and how the idea came. It's really good. I would go check if only it wasn't packed in this huge crate full of books of mine, ready to go to America next week. Anyways, Sgt. Pepper is one the best albums ever recorded, I think, but most people classify it as psychedelia, when I would call it art-rock.
I forgot to say: Lovely Rita is a great song! I love the piano on it... anyways I can't possibly imagine a Beatle's song that I don't like. My personal taste, though.
They had known the girl from a TV Show. Her parents doesn't wan't her to become a singer and so she went away. Today she lives in america and is a designer. So the story is true.
Yes, I read that he had written it about a newspaper article... ...now I love the Beatles, but I do not think that Sgt Pepper was their best work. I love it, and it was quite unique for its time, but I think that Abbey Road, Revolver/Rubber Soul, and the White Album were all better... ::shrug:: I think its just a matter of taste. My favourite song off Sgt Pepper is "Within You, Without You" (since we were talking about them...)...if you couldn't tell...I'm a big Harrison fan...
I love everything by The Beatles, and even though my favorite album by them is The White Album, I still think that Sgt. Pepper was their most revolutionary album.
I adore that album, and yes Penny, 'Lovely Rita' kicks ass! I can honestly say however, that I generally tend to push skip on the CD player when its time for 'Shes Leaving Home'.
Actually, I think that Rubber Soul is their most revolutionary album for this fact: Rubber Soul inspired The Beach Boys to create Pet Sounds. Pet Sounds inspired The Beatles to create Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Plus, Rubber Soul was one of the first albums with psychedelic elements, including a slightly psychedelic album cover.
