I was wondering, what is everyone's opinion on who the best bass players are? Not the guy you think looks the coolest or anything like that. I'm talking who has the best skill. I'd have to say Bill Dickens (The Buddha), Victor Wooten, and Jaco Pastorious. And yes, that is in order.
he's in his own ensemble, a jazz cat... check out some of his stuff, he plays with the dave holland quintet.
wooten and jaco, hands down. surprised les claypool hasn't been mentioned yet, he's a fantastic player, particularly slap.
John entwistle - yeah hes a really good bass player there a few really good bass players in my school actually: Chris Dakers Robbie Brogan Graeme Todd Jason Costello other than that I would have to say: Flea - Red hot chili peppers john entwistle - the who joe morgan - inme - he is amazing live!! john paul jones- led zeppelin peace and love xxxxxx
He may not be the best, but I have a special devotion to Mike Gordon... he is my bass-playing sweetiepie
Victor Wooten isnt even in the normal "bass" class. They should just go ahead and slap a big "god of bass" on his forhead and be done with it. Below him is squarepusher. Tom Jenkinson or something like that. This dude is fuckin sick. Best show ive ever seeen. Below that would be Stanely Clarke and claypool, with flea rounding out the top five 1. Wooten 2. Squarepusher 3. Clarke 4. Claypool 5. Flea
yeah, i would agree there... i LOVE flea don't get me wrong, but if we're talking about gods of bass, you can't forget jaco.
I'd have to go with Claypool. A couple who haven't been mentioned yet that should be on this list: Chris Squire (Yes) and Billy Sheehan (Talas, Mr. Big).
calypool, wooten, stanely clarke although the best bass solos ive heard have been by the best guitar players ever (like hendrix and schwartz)
