People are often wondering about what the best programs are to download shit with... I hear so many people recommend things like BitTorent and Kazaa... all those programs suck big balls... I am here to bless you with the knowledge of the only two programs you will ever need... and the reason other programs suck balls. Why BitTorent Sucks -- 1. It uses the internet as its way to get the links to you... what a great way to obtain spyware, and waste time searching for the right file all day. 2. When you actually find something you want, you usually always get shitty download speeds... im talking 3-4k a second... some links are better, but you dont really have a way of telling whether or not you will be getting a decent connection speed or not. Why Kazaa sucks -- Kazaa has the same old shit, not many mirrors of files, limited amount of shit to download... very lacking in less popular music... also has a browser which puts you on the website and can give you spyware that way as well... kazaa also has spyware usually unless you get a lite version or something like that... I dont like the design of kazaa either, very messy and shitty. Why everything else I didnt mention sucks -- Because its not as fast or efficient as the two programs you will ever need to find anything. DC++ - one of the only programs you will ever need... it is sort of complicated to set up to the typical computer newbie... but if you give it enough time and energy you'll figure it out. http://dcplusplus.sourceforge.net DC++ has HUBLISTS. You can first narrow down your search by filtering out the HUBS for what your looking for 'games' 'porn' 'anime' 'books' 'movies' etc. Than all you have to do is click the 20 hubs with the largest amount of users on em and than --- click the search button... which gives you lots of nice features... once the queue comes up you can filter it by download size, name, other guys connection and slots open.. loads more things... you can also enable an option that wont show you any files if you cannot download them right away -- very useful... you can find ANYTHING on dc++ if you look for it... and the hubs are from all over the world... Mirc & http://www.packetnews.com MIRC!! Old school baby! But its still the best... ever! and it will never die! all you gotta know is how to use XDCC... /msg <username> xdcc send #<slot> and you can find anything... what is great about mirc is the high download speeds you get... lots of the servers there will give you your cap internet speed.... you can find all sort of ish from it... anything you cant find on dc++ you can find on MIRC... and for the more advanced mirc users we know how to locate FServers and use them as well which are nice! All you have to do to search for files is go to packetnews.com and you are all set... not a bad website, no spyware... just annoying pop-ups! and the great thing about packetnews is its GROWING tremendously... its in its beginning stage soon there will a working fserver search! So get off bittorent and use dc++ and mirc!
WTF? bittorrent rules. dc++ is cool too, but bittorrent is the shit. i get 150kb/s+ downloads what the heck are you talking about, spyware with torrents? check out www.torrentspy.com
As Trotsky stated above..spyware is not a known problem involving torrents. What client(s) were you using? I'm using Azereus and I usually get around 100 to 150kbs on average. There are usually two reasons that someone is getting slow download speeds with bittorrent. One being that the torrent you have found doesn't have enough seeders, and the second being that there is something configured wrong on your end. As for DC++, I have to agree with you on it. I absolutely love it and I don't know what I would do without it. btw Mui, care to list a few of the hubs that you go to? I don't have any experience downloading from IRC, so I can't comment on that. Although I'm starting to get into downloading from usenet, which is another old school downloading method.
I use Limewire Pro. I think that it's a pretty good program overall. It's very easy to use, has a good file selection, and good speeds as well. Another great alternative to Limewire is Ares.
Hmm when I used bittorent it seemed i couldnt find much of what i wanted and when i did the download speedz were at like 20 kbs which is not acceptable for meeh. and if a download tool uses the internet as the medium for downloading tools, that would have to make it full of spyware as the internet is full of spyware, no? On dc++ the only 2 hubs i visit often are indinous indie life and hubzilla.no-ip.org coz of the music they have in em'.
mIRC is the shit but I think piracy is horrible. I used to use it but now I buy my cds and wait for dvd's to come out.
Piracy is not horrible. What's horrible is the prices they charge for music and movies. Actors, directors and musicians live like kings, and we poor students need to pay outrageous prices for their art. Music should be free!
The main reason that people get slow download speeds with bittorrent is because of the torrent they have found might not be healthy. Bittorrent is wonderful if you want something that was recently released, but I don't think it's that great for finding something that isn't very popular. The more popular the file, the better the chances are that you will be able to get it quickly. I think that you should read up more on how torrents and bittorrent clients work. Thanks for the DC++ hubs..I'll be sure to check them out.
It is, P2p is alright i suppose but it still infringes copyright and all those 'struggling' artists can never get started because the record company won't spend cash on things they may get no return on well nicking the bloody stuff pushes up the price all the time...just so the the same amount of cash is generated.. As horrid as 'its all about the money' is it is true 7% do the rest don't. I don't think so... as inspiring as you sound ..who is going to feed/cloth and shelter all these 'artists' giving away there stuff for free ?.
don't artists see about .15 off each cd sold? I always thought their money came from the concerts, tshirts, endorsements, that kinda thing. I'm way more likely to go see a band in concert that i've been able to hear before. I'm not gonna go buy a $15 cd, just to find out i like 2 songs on it. and honestly, i'd rather listen to music from somebody who knew they would never make much money, but just HAD to create, because it's in them.
Paul simon comes to my door I'll give him 5 bucks for every song of his on my computer, until then the record execs screw the artists and then often get the rights to their songs when they die. More than 75 years they'll keep those rights getting 100% profit on the intellectual side granted they still have to burn the cd's (10 cents a piece if that) but they get all the other profit it's screwed, on a basis of morality I won't purchase music from dead artists unless I know their family owns the rights, I don't download movies because the Mpaa has been fairly decent to this point but if they become assholes like the RIAA then sure why not, these people are given so much crap for being famous and few of them use their power in a socially responsible way
piracy is the greatest thing since the wheel. artists make very lil money off of record sales... most of their $$ comes from concerts and shows... a lot of more intelligent bands realized this and they offer their Mp3s for free on the internet... because if they do that, the more people will li sten to them, and the more people will be attending their shows therefore ultimately they will be making more money.... the only one who makes money off of cds is the record label execs... I download movies because actors and actresses are so overpaid, they do not need 9$ from some guy who barely has the money... I think anyone can see that.... besides so many movies they put out are so god damn SHITTY they arent even worth 1$. and I download games because if a game developer allows their games to be pirated easily, than it is their own fault... There are steps you can take to make sure your games cant be pirated... the few games that DONT do that are just asking to be pirated... may I point out Lucas Arts? All of their video games have little to no piracy protection... the people at lucas arts couldnt really give a fuck if someone pirates their games or not, the more people that play it the more money they get from advertisements and things like that... also the more people will play their next video games when they are released. Piracy is your friend, don't listen to metallica... they are a bunch of greedy sellout whores.
To put on conerts they have to sell records ... nobody is going to put on a concert if nobody is buying the singles/albums.. To start with anyway, clearly The rolling Stones don't fall into that category any more but once upon a time they had to play the circuit and get established and this was financed by the record companys based on record sales... Yeah i don't like buying albums that have mostly crap on.. and i only like one or two .. If they are not brought out as singles eventualy .. and i like the artist i bite my tongue and suffer the cost of the album , this rarely happens cuz the better songs get released as singles .. but i know what you mean though ... Thats fine and if the artists are happy for you to download i don't have a problem with that..its the wholsesale rip off of 99% of people that download music..thats what i have a problem with. True they are overpaid.. a small fraction of them are.. what about the people that make them and the supporting actors and the extras and the people that cater for the films .. It is not called a Industry for nothing ... It is not the over priced under skilled bafoons that ape in front of the camera but the back room people that suffer ultimately from piracy... All that is fine , but it is still rationalising piracy .. you lot are the cream of this not the scum.. wholly piracy is connected to organised crime and drugs and who knows what .. you gotta factor that erm fact into it we all know the seedy side don't we ?.
doesn't that deny the idea of bands starting at local bars, playing small town areas, and building their base that way? isn't that how bands like Big and Rich got started? also, if record sales determined popularity, why couldn't #of times downloaded, or popularity on p2p networks serve the same purpose? also, say I want to download some beatles, doesn't michael 'touch them boys' jackson own all their songs? he didn't play, create, or have anything to do with making that music, why would I feel any need to pass a single cent onto him?
Small bands are always going to come through..my thoughts were not fool proof and more than likely The rolling stones started off funding themselves with no real help.. Thats all fine but they still strive to get a record label to move on. The record label moves them onto the next level... I am sure there are thousands of 'artists' sruggling etc thats because they can't afford to move on .. it is a vicious cycle . If MJ owns the rights then they were sold , blame The beatles for that ( i think it is a urban myth though)..If you don't feel the need to pass anything onto something that was sold to him fine. Reading THE BEATLES i would not feel to sorry for them ...
In reality though, people tend to spend a certain amount on music. When they hit that ceiling is when they start downloading. So in reality, they're still buying the same amount of music..... just downloading on top of that. There's also a 2nd group of people, as exemplified by a guy I know at work who's addicted to free stuff. He simply won't buy a game or cd if he can't download it for free. Half Life 2 came out and was pretty much pirate proof, but he still wouldn't buy it despite it being the best first person shooter of all time. People like that will never spend their money on legit copies, so they're a lost cause anyway. Either way, I don't see anyone making a loss. Other points that spring to mind..... how many times have you felt ripped off when you've bought a CD that turns out to be 70% shite with a couple of good tracks? A band sticks it's couple of hits on an album, and then writes a load of filler. How many shops let you preview the album you want to buy, and how practical is it anyway? Would people pirate as much if they hadn't been ripped off for years? What about advertising? How many bands are there that you'd never go out and buy one of their CDs coz you've no idea if they're any good? Download a couple of tracks, realise they're pretty good, go out and seek their back catalogue. Free promotion. Here's one that pisses me off. Record labels deleting albums from their catalogues. I tried to purchase a load of music that I used to own (ended up selling it years ago in a period of poverty). 90% of it was no longer available. Why the hell don't they make it available for legel download? What have they got to lose?
Thats probably true.. they have been banging on about piracy for years even before mps and whatever.. but imho it is still a problem.. I thought my economics was bad.. So people are getting there own back by downloading music they don't like from artists they don't like ?. Or from artists they do like but feel they have been ripped off from these artist making shit music for years. If bands put out crap albums, don't buy the album buy the singles..Or is it cherry picking music from people they like because the whole album is crap ?... I am sure some one some were finds what you don't like bloody great and vice versa. If you buy a album that is full of crap, thats firstly a question of personal taste.. I do think you should be able to create your own 'album' but that would cause to many problems as new artist don't have a back catalouge for me to choose from and older bands do 'the best of' anyway..... Personaly there are millions of 'tracks' out there that i would like and having them all would be great..from artists i have heard of or have not .. you can only go so far with your logic. If no one is buying them then why keep them.. Not every one apreciates captain beefheart or some other obscure band .. and if the the artists won't put it out then what can ya do ?.. If you could share music wich is the point, legaly. Then it would be great. The music industry pays... and getting your work out to the world is hard... with out money. Getting something for nothing is the only gripe i have..all the other issues should be solved i agree but rationalising getting something for nothing is ?.
