I wanna bring a few great bands up for discussion. Does anybody else think the british invasion was one of the best periods for music? Sure it sounds really dated today but the music was great. With "I want to hold your hand" america got it’s first taste of some of the best bands that were otherwise overlooked until then, and a lot of whom have been forgotten since. a lot of them were around for only a few years. Bands like the rolling stones, cream and the beatles are undoubtedly the best of the bunch but they changed their musical direction a few times to whatever was happening, like psychedelia, or trying to copy other artists like bob dylan. Other bands who it seems have been far forgotten were the pretty things, the incredible string band, quicksilver messenger service, creation, john mayall, the swinging blue jeans, all of whom are really good. anybody else out there who wants to share their love for the zombies? the troggs? ten years after? freddie and the dreamers? add any bands into this thread you like, make your own list, or don't...just let me hear from those of you who haven't forgotten about this great movement. :)

here’s a list of my top 10 british invasion songs:
it's my life by eric burdon and the animals
heart full of soul by the yardbirds
itchycoo park by the small faces
time of the season by the zombies
sunshine of your love by cream
do you love me by the dave clark five
    gloria by them
I'm not your stepping stone by the monkees
I'm into something good by hermann’s hermits
do wa diddy diddy by manfred mann

I don't know alot about it myself, just bits and pieces. Out of your list,though..Herman's Hermits,The Dave Clark Five, and Manfred Mann are three that I know of and they seem to have fallen through the cracks along the way. Most people don't know of them. Also,Gerry and The Pacemakers...they were really popular in the UK during that time, but they didn't get overly popular here in the US. Good bands though and definitely a part of it all.

Those early Stones albums (12x5, Now!, Out of Our Heads, etc.) are awesome! The Animals, Yardbirds, Zombies, and the early Who are really good too. Them had a few good songs, "I Can Only Give You Everything" is probably my favorite of theirs.

This is the first thread that I've ever seen The Dave Clark Five mentioned in.

I'd make a list, but apart from The Beatles, Small Faces, and Zombies I haven't listened to any other British Invasion bands in a while.. I don't feel like looking anything up. :p

The Seekers are very good. In the early 60's the Beatles had said that the two bands they admired most were the Seekers and the Rolling Stones. Believe me, The Seekers are one of the great first British bands of the 60's.

The greatest song I ever heard come out of the British Invasion is "All The Love In The World" by Consortium.

wait, how is IM your stepping stone by the monkees on there??????? they are NOT british invasion. only one monkee was actually british (david jones), and they were formed by an american studio company. they were created for american television. All of the songs were written by american songwriters. they shouldnt even be considered as british invasion. period.
