A friend was telling me about this bank, honestly i dont recall hearing about it before. She told me that unlike other banks, it doesnt invest your money on various things that are harmful to the planet or offer its funds to finance the war, so it seems they have a lot of ethical values that I also share, so why not?

I was wondering if any of you here actually have an account with this bank and what are your experiences

    peace

The co-op are pretty ethical when it comes to all of their interests.

They're also the best Supermarket for fairtrade food and labelling...(vegan/veggie etc) imo

    Yes, their bank follows suit

Most banks and supermarkets are pretty unethical... so they do stand out from the crowd... though I'm sure they're not perfect

They tend to pass the benefits back to their membrs though, with them being a cooperative I'd have thought
Have you any facts and figures? ta

    sounds good to me;)

me niether, highstreet economics are boring as hell.....if yer are interested in the history of the co-op tho'.......look into the history of the foundations of ASDA (or rather, our very own WalMart :D ) makes for interesting reading......the co-op really were the biggest robbing bastards, years before WalMart existed....in fact, they set the standard

i want to reasearch further before i make any decision to switch banks. I dont know, it does sounds too good to be true, or perhaps i'm a bit cynical about finding goodness in the world of money and economics.

hmm excuse me if i don't believe your overview

Walmart is a completely different kettle of fish mate, satans little helpers no less;)

I don't really give a flying f about them competing with each other:p ... what I would look at before becoming a customer of a business would be their ethics socially, towards staff and animal testing / suppliers / customers etc

if they keep prices low, therefore monopolising a market... whilst still delivering on an ethical level..well that's a good one by me...could be a lot worse;)

*shrugs* ain't my overview, i advised yer to put some research into the history of a company before you decide if [ethically] they are justifiable......wot was the point of even replying if you presume i'm lying?

    *sigh*

I'm just asking you to show evidence for your wild claims... as per the norm when trying to discuss an issue intelligently

    I didn't call you a liar Oz...

gawd i remember now why this place sucks...

If you accuse a company of setting the standard for bad practice...I'd at least expect you to have an idea as to why.

I'm all ears... forever open to learning something new:)

    Peace

Oh, I know exactly why.....how the co-op fixed prices in this country which kept the farming community impoverished for much of the first half of the 20th century, how ASDA was formed from a collaboration in the farming community to remove the co-op from it's position of dominancy in the high street, and how the co-op used every dirty trick in the book for decades to try and stop them :) Resulting in the co-op being responsible for much of the way we trade consumables in this country........and imo, the country, and us as consumers, would have been infinitely better off if the company had never been founded....luckily with the advent of the monopolies commision (much of who's foundation we can actually thank the co-op for, as it was oppostion to the co-op that was a driving factor in the monopolies commision turning it's eye to the high street) they were stripped of much of their economic power and [indavertantly] free trade in all it's forms is now an actuallity in this country.......

Undeniably, the co-op has changed it's policy drastically since the 90's...but ethical? i don't think so ;)

But....yer never will believe me will ya? would ya like a link? :D

Tough, do yer own homework :p (I had to study this shit in college years ago, boring then, and it ain't much more interesting now ;) ).

Seriously tho', if yer are interested in researching a company that far back, yer gonna be much better off in yer local library or summit....a quick search for co-op/asda history on google brought not much more than a few thousand gushing semi-advert sites ........ but yer might find summit interesting if yer have the patience to trawl through 'em :)
