The Dead Stole Our Music - Sign the Petition!

On November 22nd Grateful Dead Productions, in a swift move, had Archive.org, Nugs.net and other sites remove all of their nearly 3,000 downloadable shows. This contradicts not only the official statements of GDP, the comments of band members and flies in the face of 40 years of grassroots support and loyalty by the fans. Therefore we, the undersigned, ask that the band, who once stood for no walls between themselves and the audience, tear down this wall they just constructed and return the music to the fans.

wow, this whole thing is so shitty. they also shut down rukind.com, something relating to this. arhvive and rukind, my favorite website are fucking gone.

Now that it's an official "brand" complete with trademarks, corporate support etc. god damn it the production company that purchased the copyright to said works wishes to enforce same but not limited to all transmission rights radiophonically, via tape, CD or other media, via the Internet including but not limited to gratefuldead.com, gratefuldead.org, gratefuldead.net etc.

For Frig's sake I'm sure you can get a Grateful Dead visa. I know they partnered with VW a while back.

The thing is, it's not "our music" - there's a copyright on same and it belongs to the corporation who bought out the GD

 

well, this is why we have bt.etree as a backup. I doesnt seem real. Archive.org has given me most of my music. Its like for most people all cd stores are gone. Now im gonnna have to download 2 gb shows and convert for shorten to mp3. Do yall think this will be forever?

i can't believe this....Phil would not let this happen. he gives his shit away for free all the time.....i just downloaded stuff off nugs two minutes ago.....
