i assume people that don't live in california think we are all like the people on TV... but seems to me northern california folks and southern california folks are very different.. what have you noticed?
okay maybe some of you think i meant this to be a very serious thread.. but it's not.. just stupid stereotypes will do! like how people in southern california are all plastic surgery prettied and people in northern california tend to be hairy.
southern... it's okay to pretend to be a lesbian to get famous and a role in a movie. northern... there really are actual lesbians and they aren't "lipstick" lesbians.
Reminds me of Tulelake right by the Oregon border. Hicks and inbreds all around...(not joking, my uncle says they have a lot of screwy people down there)
southern california - people are wasteful & self indulgent, fake boobs, orange tans, attention & money hungry northern california - trees, animals, hippies, preservation, freedom & spirituality
I spent the first 14 years of my life in San Jose, and then lived for a couple of years in Sacramento(Fair Oaks) when I was 20-22. Even back in the 70's, there was talk of trying to get SO Cal and No Cal as 2 different states. Those of us in Northern Cal, even back in the 70's, felt that we were a better class over the Southern Cal yuppies. Maybe that aint the right way to put it, but you know what I mean. I have no idea how the So Cal people feel, but I got the impression from my years in Cal that Northern Cal was the one pushing the issue of being a seperate State from the South, and that the South just didnt care. What it is like now I really dont know. Havent lived there in a very long time. I am now in Las Vegas, and at times I like to go to Big Bear and Lake Arrowhead, but most of the times I go to Bishop and Mammoth Lakes and the June Lake area. I guess I still prefer the North over the South, with SF being the most beautiful city in the world.
Northern=Gringos Southern=Wetbacks edit:lol...I thought this was RT....so I went with the stupid stereotype reply
ouch, you all are harsh! lol I spent birth to 22 in No. California...then some years later wound up in San Diego...been here 12 years now...it's not so bad. But I do miss the rain etc. (not this week, it's been pouring)
I’ve spent a little time in Northern Cali, I like it a lot I think if I didn’t live in Colorado I might live there, the big draw back is it is expensive and the economy sucks. But the beaches are sweet, the forest is amazing and the people are mostly cool the cost has a lot of hippies mixed in with a few poor loggers over by the Sierras it kind of turns into rednecks. I’ve been on a few trips in Southern Cali the main things that come to mind are: Big Hwys with lots of ruthless traffic, never-ending suburban wasteland, angry people in a hurry, make up, silicone tits and smog. I’ve had some good times in Southern Cali but I would want to live there..
Born and raised here in So. Cal. This place is a 3rd world toilet and its getting worse by the day. I gotta get out of here.
this reminds me of a message board i belong to. some idoit was whining that, the reason the price of almonds is so high in l.a. is, to quote him: 'because all the beaners are stealing them off the trees at night in so. cal.' some people need to get a life and, quit listening to these right-wing radio.
I've lived in both northern and southern California and spent quite a bit of time everywhere in between. There are cool good people in both, with probably slightly more in the north coast. As TreehuggerT previously said, I agree the real divide is East/West.
I hear ya... especially with the new taxes (welcome to the most taxed state in the U.S.), and the growing budget deficiet as more and more people exodus from the golden (welfare) state...
Born in Southern California but I have been living most of my life in Northern California. I love to visit the beaches in Southern Cali but that's about it.. the vibe is different up here. People are more laid back and accepting. People seem to be more real and natural. Not as crowded as Southern Cali either. But the biggest difference I have personally seen the attitudes. People up here tend to be...more kind and considerate. The beauty of Northern California is just...amazing. Of course that is if you like forests, mountains and green landscape.
here are a few books to read: i read these long before i went west. "the two californias", the nine nations of North america", "ecotopia". there is also the county commisioner of lassen Co california, who wants to actually split the state. i`ve talked to him several times. it`s almost come to a vote several times. there`s also the state of jefferson, which was a lil slice of so. oregon which almost seceeded. then the cascadia movement.
