The issue today is that the six conservatives on the Supreme Court describe the presidency with words like 'conclusive' and 'preclusive' to try to argue for Trump's supposed powers that supposedly have precedence over those of Congress, without making an argument for why they think that way (like they did for the presidential immunity ruling in 2024).

The other approach they use is to selectively shy away from important constitutional issues brought to the court by implying that Trump has the ultimate say and that the Supreme Court isn't there to adjudicate such matters (although they don't use such an approach for ruling on conservative causes, such as the overturning of Roe v. Wade using a case that arguably wasnt intimately tied to abortion in the first place).

Sometimes they won't even give a response, won't post which members on the court voted which way, or won't sign a ruling, such as for some of the 21 emergency rulings they granted to Trump during his second term for his acts whose constitutionality are to be determined at some later date .

That one is profound. Consider the shear amount of irreparable damage Trump arguably has done with his tariff wars, selective cutting off of federal funding to groups he doesn't like, and his mass deporation crusade, all based on murky claims of a national emergencies and invasions by foreign enemies.

Yet the conservatives on the Supreme Court are giving him the benefit of doubt while it may take months for the courts to determine if it's constitutional.

Moverover, Trump is using his irreparable harm to argue that he should be able to continue with it because, if he isn't allowed to, there will be even more irreparable harm done to the country if courts rule that his tariffs wars are unconstitutional and efforts are made to try to reimburse businesses for the harm he did to them for his actions that he claims will make the U.S. better years from now.

Such a line of thinking is implying that it's ok to engage in behavior that is illegal or unconstitutional if a president thinks that it will make the country better in the long run, and that courts ruling otherwise based on the law will do even more harm to the country at the moment and later.

In the 1980's SNL would do a recurring sketch featuring Jon Lovitz as Tommy Flanagan, an extreme compulsive liar who sounds the same as George Santos.

They should resurrect that routine with an actor who looks like George Santos.

Pam Bondi ordered to explain Ghislaine Maxwell prison move

    excerpt:

Robert Garcia, who is leading the House oversight committee’s investigation into Epstein, has demanded Mrs Bondi, Mr Trump’s attorney general, explain why Maxwell was transferred.

“Each day Pam Bondi and the department of justice fail to comply with our subpoena to release the full Epstein files is another day Donald Trump continues his White House cover-up,” he said.

“We’re demanding Pam Bondi and the DoJ [department of justice] comply with our subpoena, stop protecting paedophiles, and fulfill their legally-bound commitment so our Committee can review the full Epstein files. We will not stop fighting until we get the truth and those implicated are held accountable.”

Todd Blanche was Trump's defense attorney for his NYC criminal trial.

Now he's the U.S. Deputy Attorney General.

Prison Is Helping Massive Ghislaine Maxwell Coverup for Trump: Insider

    excerpt:

“I have to imagine that getting her to Bryan was the starting point to getting her out of custody, whether through commutation or pardon. It just seems to me that you don’t move someone to that type of facility with this kind of protection and precautions if you’re not overly concerned about her safety and what she has to say and offer,” Mangel said.

“So my guess, and purely speculation, is that at some point she will receive some form of clemency.”

Forget Trump’s third term — the president posted a meme threatening to rule into 2048

    excerpt:

The signs roll on to a final one, brandished by the president himself, reading “Trump 2048” that proceeds to tick upwards through the election years, reaching the year 90,000 before revealing the message: “Trump 4EVA."

Group of Republicans wants Jack Smith stripped of his law license.

Republican lawmakers suggest Jack Smith should lose law license

    excerpt:

The Friday letter was signed by Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.), Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska) and Rep. Mike Kelly (R-Pa.)
    • "To the best we can tell, Smith's team went on this fishing expedition for one simple reason: we are Republicans who support President Trump," they wrote. "And, as noted above, we have no knowledge of any predicate that underlies this invasion of our privacy."

    https://www.bloomberg.com/news/arti...told-trump-tariffs-are-illegal-3-trillion-tax

    excerpt:

"Small businesses challenging many of President Donald Trump’s global tariffs urged the US Supreme Court to affirm lower court rulings that the import levies amount to a massive illegal tax on American companies.

Trump usurped the power of Congress to tax when he issued levies in February and April under an emergency law that was never intended to be used to impose duties, one of the companies, Learning Resources Inc., said in a brief Monday. The justices are set to hear arguments Nov. 5 in the high-stakes case."

Trump refers to his rioters as great patriots, as if they are walking saints. He said he felt their love on the day of insurrection at the Capitol. He told them to go home in peace and love and remember the riot forever.

Now he will feel obligated to pardon them once again for more crimes that they have committed, claiming they are being treated so unfairly.
