You know no matter how you look at it, the simple fact is, the earth is finite. One day the earth will die. I mean if our sun will die, the earth will die.

This means the way forward is in finding ways to get off of the earth.

I think people who see humanities only purpose to be to gain symbiosis with the earth are missing this point. I mean YES we should refine and improve ourselves so we as humans are not so messy and inefficient with resources available to us. But if symbiosis with earth were to be humanities only objective then that means humanity would be finite because the earth will die.

Our primary objective must be space.

Sometimes when I see people who consider 'getting in touch with nature' and 'simplifying life' and 'doing away with the technological cities' and 'moving into rural communes' to be like PRIME goals of human direction, I think they really miss the whole point of our situation as humans. Yes experimentation with living arrangements and living styles are good, lowering how much shit we do is good. But this, right now, is not the most important thing for humanity. The most important thing for humanity is technological development and advancement, for the purpose of developing a means of interstellar travel. The people who are doing the most to truly help the current human dillemna are the technological masterminds pushing the envelope because it is only through this that we are aiming at being an immortal race, only through the conquering of space do we as a species have the option to live and evolve forever. Anyone who is not aiming everything they do at space is inherently aiming humanity towards there ultimate genocide with the death of the earth.

What you all think about this idea?

Earth is finite but imagination is not.

i suppose if you consider species immortality to be the ultimate goal, then you're right. personally, i care more about myself than the rest of the species.

Reality is the product of human consciousness. As long as there is a human consciousness there will be some kind of reality. We in the west have gotten lost in the external world and forgotten that it is the internal that creates the external.

I think you watched too much Star Trek.

The human race is still very barbaric and primitive. We lack respect not only for each other but for other species that share this planet with us. The last thing this universe needs is a bunch of racist homo sapiens with Star Wars weaponry and arguing how foreign policies will affect the McDonalds franchises on Mars.

Solve the problems we have here first before we go creating new ones.

You have made a most eloquent case for condemning the species to share in the earth's finiteness as I think we have demonstrated that we've reached the very pinnacle of intellectual evolution and now are slowly devolving. Those who have not "advanced" to a reliance on an artificial infrastructure will be the only ones left when the rest of us "civilized" people finish killing one another off and they won't possess the technology that enables space travel.

If it is the heads of state and corporations that wish to settle Mars in order to extend human longevity beyond that of the earth then by all means, let's send them all right away. Bon voyage!

The dude who said we are still in a state of barbism is right.....We have alot of time before the sun burns out and i think at the evolutionary pace we are at we shud be able to reach a peaceful nation of one before that, unless this stupid stage we are in destroys us.

It took 4000 years(i cud be rediculously wrong) to reach this if iam right and alot has been acheived technologically. We still have to evolve socially. I think thats the feild we gotta evolve in anyways. So yeah lol

On to the mars thing and conquering space, once we establish a base on mars we are gonna heat it until life is sustained...I watched it on the nationel geographic channel.

In reality to survive we need to get out of the solar system.

It is possible that the earth, finite as it is, will outlast the human race.

I don't really care whether or not humans colonize space, but I mean it's cool to work on that goal. Hopefully we don't toxify the planet to the point where all it's lifeforms are genetically damaged mutants before it's time to bail on our dying planet/solar system.

The amount of technological progess it would take to sustain life for a group of people for an indefinite amount of time is mind-boggling.

Where are they going to get food/fuel for the millions+ years it would take to find more.

    I doubt it'll happen, but I really don't care.

This stupid stage may well end with our self-destruction

Your numbers may not be accurate but I doubt that they are ridiculously so- but as for social evolution, I see the specimens of the species around here not evolving but becoming less advanced socially. In order to do successfully complete the evolution that I agree would be necessary, we'd have to reverse course.

Technology has out paced its inventor.

I'd say this is probable, not just possible.

Its gonna be something when the inventor catches up lol

Not everyone is barbaric on this planet and the people who would hold the doors to any sort of technology that could offer interstellar travel would be the single most intelligent and evolved people on this planet.

A certain percentage of people may just get left behind in any future space migrations.

I was going to say that, but I don't have any probability data to back it up. Periodic mass extinctions due to ice ages n such have wiped out dominant species in the past, but at least some humans would probably find a way to survive.

That would be the super-rich. I've always found the thought of the rich surviving an apocalypse then being left to fend for themselves in a wasteland full of corpses with out their slave-race of poor people to be a very amusing idea.

But seriously, is there some Reason that humans SHOULD outlive the Earth?

People will die out long before the earth does. Just a fact.

It would have to be some kind of self-contained eco system.
