    My father, who is into ancient history and civilisations, used to have a resin reproduction of that calendar thing on his wall when I was little.

    I used to like reaching up and pressing its nose with my finger. I was just tall enough to reach ... :daisy:

    Yep- one year to stock up on rice, water, MREs, canned goods, and to build your fallout shelters! You all do know what to do in case of fallout don't ya?

    Put it back in and use shorter strokes.

    hmmm...

    I have to draw up a new blueprint for my shelter. I'm afraid if I build it from the current blueprint, I'll be living in my septic tank.

    And I need to make sure I stock up on chickens, cows and pigs for my shelter.

    I like fresh meat.

    At least we have had plenty of practice with these countdowns. Isn't this like about the tenth time we have been told the world is coming to a end?

    Everyone used to have one of those back in the early 70s. They were very popular. The Mayan Sundial I believe it was called.

    As far as the "end" of the world. I doubt it. Humans can be wiped off the face of the earth, but the planet will live on.

    Possible scenarios (I think there's already a thread on this):
    1. Nuclear War in the Mideast. Could spread fallout around the world.
    2. Global Warming. Yup, massive releases of methane from the arctic regions and under the sea cause massive fires that spread and raise temps more dramatically than we've previously seen.
    3. Drought. People start fighting over water resources which are now owned by multinational corporations. This is probably what did in the Mayan civilization, a prolonged drought.
    4. Extraterrestrial event. You know like an asteroid hitting the earth, a huge solar flare, whatever.
    5. Economic implosion. The world's big banks collapse one after another, taking down the entire economic system. This may only be a matter of time... No more credit (we've already seen what that does), businesses fail left and right. People hoard money and food (already happening). Millions more lose jobs and take to the streets.
    6. Social chaos. Political events cause uprisings around the world, governments collapse, chaos ensues.

    Those are some of the more likely scenarios. I think I'll post this in a poll so ppl can vote on what they think might happen...

    Nice poll..... I think we are headed for a combination of 1,5 and 6 as we sit here and ponder, just read the news. With 2 and 3 just to make things interesting as this also is already happening.

    May as well toss in the asteroid or "Planet X" and don't forget the super volcano sitting under Yellowstone National Park just to finish things off.


    We are screwed, people...
