Any other time, I'd have to agree with you about attention seeking hysterical cashews and filberts. But, I'm inclined to make a two sided sign out of boards to wear while I pace back and forth in front of Denny's. The front will say 'The End of the World is here' and I'm thinking about 'eat at Joe's' for the backside. And I'm no planter's peanut. I'm a sane and rational adult who never panics, even when there's trauma and death. So why am I suddenly an eschatologist?

• the northern ice cap is melting at an unbelievable rate, and the Northwest Passage is actually clear!
• check your compass, did someone change North while you weren't looking?
• where ever you live, how's the weather? is it the same as it always is, for this time of year?
• when's the last time you did a little night time star gazing? have you seen how low the moon sits when it rises?
• where I live, and a few people I know, including residents of the UK, get a lightning show almost every night, often without much thunder or rain
• have you read about all the beached whales and missing birds, both of whom navigate with magnetic orientation?
• earthquakes are way more frequent, and of greater intensity. this is easily verified on the internet
• when examined overall, the world's animal kingdom is currently suffering a mass extinction, such as those that killed the dinosaurs. we don't notice because it happens slowly
• the sea levels are rising
• this is the strangest of all--and I'm not making this up--there are strange creatures emerging, such as giant birds in alaska, mothman or thunderbird and chupacawa in south america.

There's forces that run the universe, of which we have no understanding. Just the same, they don't know our names. There's not much we can do to stand in the way of the progress of plans that were initiated before we were even tribolites in a vast shallow sea, before the very first extinction.

I know it's probably a dire thought, when you haven't even reached the legal age for alcohol, but it doesn't have to be. It's not like we are just going to cease being, the principle of the conservation of matter applies to all matter, whether it's slow atoms, like our bodies, or fast atoms, like our spirits. If you've ever imagined what it was like to be on earth in the beginning, it's got to be just as mind boggling to be here for the end (of the earth, not of us).

This world is gone past even damage control. The truth is, we're at the lowest place in existence, some might even call it hell. So how can change be anything but an improvement?

BTW, does anyone know where the rulers of Sumerian civilization came from originally? I'll give you a hint: They didn't climb to get here, they didn't drop off of a passing planet, and they didn't come on a spaceship; they fell.

No, they still function, but if you're familiar with the orientation in the place you live, you should find that they do not point the 'same North' as they did a few years back. People that have measured have come up with a change of about 15 degrees (lat and long degrees) each year, and I think it was down from the north pole, between Canada and Europe, (is that where greenland is?) in a sort of slanted direction.

I just found out that 7 degrees celcius, which is what the north pole web cam had posted on the picture, is actually 44.6 degrees farenheit! Damn near toasty for the North pole, I'd say.

This is unprecedented in known history, some of that ice has been there perhaps 10 million years! And what's on the news? Presidential election BS and more propaganda related to the war on terrorism. What a wonderful world!

I don't know where you came up with this ridiculous idea. It sounds like something right out of the National Enquirer. North is the same as it has been for millennia. If it changed at anything like 15 degrees per year, modern machinery would simply cease to function, especially satellites. The earth's magnetic flux changes very very slowly.

Again, global warming is a problem but it's not going to be the doom of mankind.

You are correct about this one (except it's not yet as severe as the dinosaur extinction). However, this mass extinction is mainly caused by humans, not by any geological phenomenon.

The computer you are using to write this nonsense, along with the website you got it from, would not work if the North Pole had moved 15 degrees over the course of a few years.

The North Pole is NOT 44.6 degrees Fahrenheit, and any base knowledge of physics would tell you that it is IMPOSSIBLE for the North Pole to be that warm unless the ENTIRE ICE CAP had already melted (which I don't think even you believe).

in fact the only measurable global warming thats happened over the past 100 years is 2 F, hardly apocolyptic considering the massive gains in the standard of living all over the world in the 20th century. Another 2 or 3 F in the next hundred years will definatly be worth it if you consider the advances that are almost ineviatable. Aside from that, in the past 100 years, the accuracy of measurments has improved, so theres no way of discerning if that temperature change is within the margin of error, and even if its true, theres no way of telling if this is just not a natural flux the earth goes through.

I'm not saying there aren't real enviormental problems, and I'm not saying global warming isn't problematic, all I'm saying is we're not all iminentyly doomed. usually people who are predicting doom are also making money off of it.

The sky will remain the sky, of course. Global warming is not the problem they say it is, although it is currently a scapegoat of explanation, employed by the government and their minions.

There are 360 degrees in a circle. 15 degrees is 4% of that...an ENORMOUS change. 15 degrees is greater than the distance from Maine to Florida. Of course humans would notice a change like that. The dinosaur extinction was one of the top three in world history...I'd say that makes it pretty severe. As for not being sudden, most geologists and paleontologists have estimated that the dinosaur extinction occurred over a period of 1-100 years...a blink of an eye on a geological scale.

The Northwest Passage is the Northwest Passage, always has been and always will be. It's something that many explorers searched for, something that many died failing to find. And it does happen to be depicted on the map that she has linked. The fact that you would deny that this is the case makes one really wonder just how little you really know.

The people who happen to study climate change are highly qualified scientists, so I'm not sure how you can argue that it's "pseudoscientific" and then seriously claim that you "prefer examining REAL science". Obviously you have no clue as to the nature of scientific research when it comes to climate change, and by the sounds of it, your sources for "real" and "scientific evidence" are probably the right-wing media, and the right-wing/corporate sponsored think-tanks that they glean their "facts" from.
