Lib. Of course all things can not be tolerated. nothing that is harmful to others is right even if there is right to opinion. there should be no tolerance of anything that can tear down another person that is in no way loving or accepting to allow the degredation of other or to be one who degredates another. you also can not take the actions of fundamentalist who are a minority of the religious population and give the same name to everyone that is what i mean by judgmental. I just have a hard time not accepting people based on something like religion and I have a hard time with generalizing people and being mean. so sorry, but that is just how i am i just love people and all differnt kinds of people. I can only write a person off after they have done harm with out regret. even some people who are fundamentalists have good qualities and everyone in the world is connected through the brother and sisterhood of humanity even if they don't realize it. and we can only hope that all people will one day realize this.

I don't believe the fundamentalists are a minority. And certainly not some group we should pass off as unpowerful.

They are almost in control of the system now.

I am fed up with having to hear about "god" from public officials when they deny atheists a voice. That is bigotry!

Bush 41 and his retarded offspring are perfect examples. Bush41 claimed that he didn't consider atheists as citizens and his spokesman said that the atheist plight was "bullshit". While Bush 43 tries to push his religion with government policies and claims "God" told him to invade Iraq.

    MINORITY? Not hardly.

You act as if they are some pitiful, sad group who are in no way a real threat, when the real fact is that they are a majority and a major threat to our way of American life: LIBERTY & JUSTICE.

Kinda like the south Park episode where Mr. Garrison brings Mr. slave into the classroom so he can get fired but the boys who say it is wrong are called intolerant.

I also agree the fundamentalists are not a minority.

Ugh, I really wish I had that book Stealing Jesus again cause there is some great stuff on official doctrine passed by the Baptist Coalition or Federation or whatever they are. But yeah, it also makes reference to the Scotfield Reference Bible which is the quint-essential fundamentalist text(along with some of it's anaysis I do believe).

    It's sheer madness!

In Georgia, an atheist is getting death threats because he brought the ACLU to down to fight against the Cobb County school board's decision to discredit science in and give "creationism" a voice in SCIENCE class. We aren't talking history or culture, but SCIENCE.

Creationism isn't science because it already claims to know the answers and takes the findings of science to fit in their little preconceived box!

But, it's about damn time we stand up and say we want EQUAL RIGHTS! President Bush41 claimed, "I don't consider atheists as citizens because this is One Nation under God."

Yeah, all this "God" stuff was added to our currency and our pledge in the '50s along with Congress ESTABLISHING A LAW which states the President should create a "National Day of Prayer" and now, Bush43 is giving government funding to the same people our Founding Fathers and two Presidents denied funding to-- RELIGIOUS GROUPS.

Churches don't need State intervention in their services any more than the State needs the Church dictating legislation and policy!

    WWJD? What Would JEFFERSON Do?

END THIS SHIT. That's for damn sure.

As an atheist I don't believe we ought to remove "In God We Trust" and replace it with "In NO GOD We Trust", but I do believe something like "Liberty & Justice FOR ALL" would sum it up quite nicely!

And remove "Under God" as well, it was NOT in the original pledge.
And stop swearing "so help me God" in our PUBLIC SYSTEM as well.

Atheists are SHAT UPON in our society and it's about goddamn time it stopped.

It is more like a lucky charms box. You got your various marshmallow guys (allowing for variation within the two groups rather than a simple polarization which is never good and that is the sort of thing that even Lib seems to be against with his hatered of the "christians and non-christians" labeling) and then you have your oat pieces (the vocal fundamentalists).

The problem is that either a christian group (even conservative groups who aren't nessecarily fundamentalist) thinks that the fundamentalists aren't a threat so they don't get vocal; Or they are trying to be vocal, but no one pays attention to them because they aren't extreme or they don't have the resources to mass comunicate (ie a television station a la Pat Robertson or magazine and books a la James Dobson)

EDIT: also, it is human nature for many pople to want to belong to an exclusive group and to feel superior to others, and that is what fundamentalism allows. I also see a bit of what scientology does in it. (thi is just what I heard, so please don't quote me on it). I hear that one of the "tenants" of scientology says that you are successful because you deserve to be successful and rich, and that is why lots of celebrities are drawn to it. I am not predicting a mass conversion to fundamental Christianity by celebrities, but even Pat Robertson thinks that ammassing a fortune is God blessing him and that the poor have something wrong with them.

They're starving to death, that can't be good. 29 000 kids every day of the year starve to death while you and I spend $120 million a piece to buy f 22 raptor fighter/bombers to make sure it stays that way...
The poorest of the poor have something wrong with them, they are on the wrong side. If we cancelled one f 22 per year, thats $300 000 a day that we could spend on poverty...
Sad but true, add a Comanche helicopter, cancel one of those a year and we have another $60 million to play with, or $450 000 per day....
That would feed, clothe, and house a heck of a lot of 'heathens'.
    But we won't.
We too righteous, and they're not, so they lose, sucks to be them.
I don't believe in hell, but if there is one, and I had to guess whether us or them are headed there, it's us hands down.
    Es Salaam Aleikum.

This just in respose to christians using religion as a means to support personal wealth.
actually, the bible specificly states the meak shall inherit the earth, weak shall be strong.
There is also the story of a young rich man(in Mark I believe) asking Jesus the way to heaven and Jesus told him to sell of his belongings and feed the poor. The man was saddened by this because he had much. So the dicipiles asked about this and Jesus said, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to go through the gates of heaven. I will look up exact verse if people so desire later)
so all those nut jobs Pat Roberts and those believing they better in the eyes of their lord because of their ammassed riches are completely lying or uninformed and twisting a loving religion to fit their concious of not taking care of as many people as they are able.

its nearly impossible to control the actions of others. All I could do as my kind of believer would be to argue with them and get the same answers that others do that is why they are fundamentalists. My point the whole time has been that i have a religion and people twist it and make it seem wrong when it is not wrong for me and it is not based on the things that these "nuts" claim it to be and it is very offensive to me to be grouped with people that I do not agree with, yet I am lumped together with them by individuals who can not see past a persons religion to the person. (I'm not saying you can't see past a person's religion this is a forum for discussion and I'm sure in life you have friends all kinds.) love
