the media making hippies look bad

first off, im no hippie. If you are, more power to you.

now im not talking about mainstream media like cnn or foxnews or shit like that. i know theres probably not many adults on here that have played it but something i noticed that was very subtle about the discrediting of hippies was ina videogame.
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

When your character "CJ" opens up the second Island to do missions on He'll get a phone call after a couple of the first missions. "The Truth" will tell you to meet him at a hotel in a secluded part of town. When Cj arrives there he walks in and sees the crooked cop(who is the badguy of the game) smoking a bong and talking shit to him. Truth comes in and says "blah blah blah i want you to sell this pot for me. go get some money" well now you can do missions for him. Heres the point: "the truth" acts like this spaced out moron. Hes paranoid and spouts off all kinds of psychobabble bullshit. Plus he uses classic hippies phrases and drives a trippy looking van and even calls himself a hippie in one scene....but he makes hippies look horrible. He talks about all this major conspiratorial shit and has a large pot farm and dresses like a bum. just thought you guys might find this interesting, in a videogame that encourages cop killing, car jacking, gang mentality, and drugs...they take the time to make a fucked up version of a hippy.

and is this about a video game oh geez, I could go on and on how fucking huge they make womens breasts in video games and so forth...
its a game, thats all it is...

 

but since when does making breasts larger mean its a bad thing


sure cnn and all that kind of media make people look bad. but this was one of the top selling games for like a year straight. 90% of adults with children(above 12 or so)on here's kids have prolly played it....so if your kid thinks hippies are stupid then whats he going to think of his hippy mother or father?

 

when i have kids and my kids think hippies are stupid, thats fine, more power to them... I am not a hippy, I am a moron, now, if my kids start bashing morons or dumbasses, then we will have a problem...

i like the game actually, and have fun playing it each and everytime....

 

i hate how so many games are war games. Lets go make a realistic game about a war that really happened and people went crazy from. Hey lets let our kids play these games. Get them use to war, blood, and violence so when they grow up they couldnt care less if someone dies.

you know "True Romance", there Gary Oldman plays a very bad guy but he wears like hippy someway.. not like hippy but just..
However, it's not good for sure.
I remembered when I told to my classmates I was pacifist I was against war etc. they've answered: so you don't need to have bath anymore.
hah, that means that to be against war means to be hippy and to be hippy means to be dirty.

get over it already.....i love war video games and games where you shoot people, why, cause its ENTERTAINMENT and NOT REALITY, and if you cant distinguish between the two then you are a freaking moron...

 

yeah, and you gots to admit, if youve played it, san andreas is great fun...

 

All GTA's are fun to play, San Andreas though is my fav...
But I see some dont care for video games cause they shoot people and there is blood, and so forth, but as a parent its up to YOU not tv, games, interenet or anything to raise your children, not media...its just annoys me when people go off on video games, like they are evil, when its merely entertainment...and I dont see 5 year olds playing GTA, if they do, thats the parents fault, not the damn game..
Video and computer games (love me so counter strike) are fun and I love them...

 

Its a stereotype..go visit a few of the forums around here.. stacked full of them. No not everybody is like that though..

Moon water thinks that just because some play games orientated towards 'war'.. then those people must be a certain way .. again not everybody is like that.

Both points have as much validity and truth in them as each other and are as flawed as each other also.

i am sure you can play it and be ok. I am talking about young kids. It has been proven through study that it has an effect on kids. Just look at my poor little cousin. He yells things out like "I SHOT YOU. Your dead! You died and i killed you." He he wants to play out what he has seen on tv and games. It is disturbing. Whats makes it even more is that there are many kids out there like him doing the same thing. My uncle is really worried about him when he grows up and my uncle is not the kind to get easily rattled.

 

since when have people NOT made fun of hippies?? have you heard of the simpsons, or southpark? When anyone brings up the word hippy on television, is it usually has a negative connotation.

 

Moon Water has some very good points. With all the violence and killing on TV, In the movies, and in video games, kids get used to it and dont think of killing as such a bad or serious thing. I was a counseler at a camp and all the kids were into guns and shooting, and where do they get it? Its from tv and video games.

Dude, The Truth is The Shit! I absolutely love that cutscene; I giggle like a little school girl when I watch it. But, this is coming from Rockstar... I mean; COME ON! Who DOESN'T R* rip on?

 

Humans have always been 'violent' finding means to channel that 'violence' has changed over the years.. nowadays its watching TV and playing games.. Did you sit down with those kids and ask them there views on death/violence there attitude towards others ?..

Imho 99.9% of those kids will never harm anybody 'real' in there lives. I was brought up on TV that is supposed to be 'bad'.. I have learnt through maturity my own morale compass, and it had nothing to do with the type of TV i watched.. thats just me ?.

 

It's like a kids perspective of a water gun and a bottle with water and a hole; it's quite the same. There's not really an evil meaning in their child game but in the "game" they are not actually playing. They are not killing & shooting but throwing things at each other. Their purpose it not to harm but to play. It is the adults that have changed the shape of their toys. Not just that... it's also why the Barbie is anorectic and why the Brat dolls have HUGE lips and silicon breasts. How children play is how they think... and how they think is how they are. It doesn't mean that's who they are and will be.
Why are the "throwing items" in a shape of a gun while they don't have to be!? Kids don’t unterstand. If they are not introduced to any form of fake/real weapons... there's no "need" of selling/buying it. There wouldn’t be anyone to make money on children’s lack of understanding. They are used in the capitalist world; they are good at sucking the money out of mommy’s wallet into a capitalist’s hand with their teas and howl.
And a while ago I met this five-year-old quite skinny gal and she tells me how fat she is. She’s fiiiiiive!!!

 

lots of hippies are paranoid. im paranoid. do i have a reason not to be with things like the patriot act being enforced? anyway, i do see your point. face it, people will never accept people who are happy and free.

 

Now imagine playing that game being a person of barbadayian descent. I mean making fun of hippies is not nearly as bad as what they do to black people in that game. All of CJ's friends are either black or mexican and are all involved in crime. Being labeled hippy is a choice, being black isn't. Now, i am not going to bash this game because I have played it and enjoyed it. I don't know if thats bad or neutral.
