i think the hippie movement is completely sold out as of right now. Dont get me wrong there are real hippies. but everybody and there sister is now wearing tie-die they dont even know the meaning behind it. All ouf the old bands like the dead and the doors there shirts are being sold in goth stores, and these people walk around wearing it and dont even know what its like. rasta stripes can now be found everywhere. this insults me cuz i used to have dreads and everybody is wearing rasta. Goths are not hippie's. What do you guys think www.freewebs.com/smbsjr
i think you need to let go of your preconcived notion of what a hippie type person should wear/do/ care about, and just let people be
I think the hippie movement was one of the 60's/70's, and we should push for political change as opposed to the right to long hair
right on chris you should get on msn now btw. :H and uh...well what can i say, cool stuff becoming mainstream sucks?
lol... it's not 'fashionable' to be a hippie where i am, it's more like everybody's got their hat cocked to the side, their pants sagging, and saying "nigga" at the end of every sentence regardless of their skin color. Besides, I thought the 'movement' died around 68.
.. just because somebody wears tie die or likes certain music or wears hemp or has dreads... doesnt make them a hippie..... and thats so insanely stupid when people think that.. its a state of mind more so... and so many people are hipocrits saying "I love the earth" and then turning around and dropping a mcdicks cup on the ground.. or their candy wrapper.. just because they are too lazy to go find a garbage can.. or they say " I love animals" and then turn around and kick a dog.. ughh these threads are insanely obnoxious how bout you learn what a hippie is really about before you start saying stuff like that...... yes tie dye and what not has turned into a trend.. but I personally wear because I know Im poor right now and a pack of white tshirts and a box of tie dye costs about 15 bucks all together... same price I would go pay some retarded store for a shirt......
aah, I love these "why aren't we hippies anymore" or "what are hippies" or "waaaah I'm not the uniquest person ever" threads Sorry, I know what you mean, but there are so many clones of these out there Just let people be people, what does it matter to you what others wear or say?
Well, the movement has sold out in terms of the hippy "style" but there still are many real hippies, but you can't identify them based on a particular look. People who are still politically active, interested in hippy art forms, or a "free-spirit" kind of person definitely exist, but it's not like they will all necessarily be wearing tyedye or that people wearing tyedye will be these kind of people. I personally do have that look, but I know many hippies who don't, and many people who look like me but arent hippies. These are no longer symbols with the same meaning as before, and it's kind of shallow to expect it to be...
chris made a good point. i think a ton of shit is overrated, and even if the movement isnt as strong as it is now, our job as younge people is to make the world try and understand that we are still connected to that movement that was ignored. i dont know, i feel really strongly about kicking this administrations ass (in a "peaceful" matter)
wait...is that..because it's cheap and looks cool? or because it's like totally to stick it to the man?
ok lables are not the best but I think that some people that dont realy know what hippies are about get the wrong idea from strero types of tye dye and substances. not eveyone does that and I catch greef a lot because of my dress. Cops teachers they think Im stoned and im realy not You seem to be going in a good direction
hippies didnt have a meaning, err... thats what made them cooler then the goofy politicos of their time, a hippy would rather smoke a bowl and chill the fuck out
the "movement" never sold out...one cannot sell the beauty of ones heart and soul. you should let go of everything and hit the road, you'll run into family all over, i guarantee it, especially if your on foot. we are everywhere.
its ironic that the hippie movement complains that others cant see their point of view and that the world would be great if there was love and peace. But as soon as it becomes popular to like the Dead or the Doors , so tons of people wear their shirts, ya'll start complainin.......
