What does everyone here think about Morrisey? I don't have much of an opinion myself, but I would be quite interested to see what others have to say about him, since he really is quite a controversial figure. Musically as well as personally. I recently read an interview with him in Mojo. I kind of like his personality (from what I read in this magazine, I mean, since that's the full extension of my knowledge on this matter), for some reasons, but he tends to come off as a twit from time to time.
For me, he didn't do a single bad album with The Smiths ranging from the excellent to the out and out classic. His solo work I never found to be that interesting and alot of it crap. Personality-wise I think he's an arrogant prick, and I hate him even more for his flirtations with the British far-right in the early 90's whether it was done with irony in the name of art or whether it was for real that was wrong, great song writer though but even better with Johnny Marr and co
I really like the Smiths. But I haven't heard enough solo Morrissey to make an accurate conclusion as to if I like his work or not. I've heard several of his songs, some of them I like while others I found to be a little too fey for my liking. And yeah, the guy is really arrogant. I know that has nothing to do with his music, but I have seen a few interviews with him and he seems kind of snobbish and in love with himself. Lots of people have claimed the same thing about him.
I don't really like The Smiths, I don't see what's so great about them... so many people seem to worship them, I personally don't get it, but, if they're happy that way, good for them... (actually it might be the production that I dislike the most) Anyways, I heard Morrisey's new single on the radio (one of the very rare times when I turned it on!), and I actually loved it! But I agree on how arrogant he seems... I haven't read any interviews by him, but, just the way he looks, I mean his facial expressions, it's obvious, I wasn't surprised at all when I read what you said Matt, how he seems in love with himself!
