first, i have a head cold thats driving me crazy agh, i decided to go in the bath last night & read my £1 book from the asda. a bath always makes me feel a little better, sitting in warm water escaping reality in a book.

i got out a little before 10pm feeling a little more relaxed, i went down stairs & layed on the sofa with my fiance. his programme finished on the TV & he put the 10pm news on. i dont mind watching the news normally, i have it on while preparing tea at 6pm & thats on for a whole hour, the 10pm news is on for half an hour.

it started off, headline news "bank of england cuts interest rate to a historic 1.5%" i'm watching these news readers go ona & on about how the interest rate hasnt been this low since the bank of england first started in 1694, credit crunch, ressession, job losses, high street suffering etc etc etc.

next news headline "nissan car plant to axe 1000's of jobs" another news reader telling me of more depressing crap.

next news headline "more bombing of hamas" various reporters in palistine, various videos & pictures of dead, half dead, seriously wounded people.

by this point we were 15mins in to the news programme, the more i watched the more frustrated & upset i became. i asked my fiance to turn it off in quite an icy tone. i didnt mean it to be directed at him but it kinda came out that way. i'm just sick of seeing such negativity & hatred in this world, i havnt seen 1 news programme over the past 6 months show any positive news. even my local news which does atleast a couple of positive news storys at the end to lighten the mood alittle hasnt shown anything positive at all.

no wonder people are so depressed! i know the ressesion is hitting a lot of countrys all over the world & times are hard for many people but surly something good has happend somewhere. if its not financial problems people are bombing eachother. i really cant understand this world sometimes.

i turned over to find something more positive. found a fantastic programme on the history chanel about space & the big bang. it was a two hour programme taking you though the ages on how & who descovered the understanding of space & the universe. it went right from how we belived we (the earth) believed we were the centre of the universe, to how today we know that we are just one little planet, going round one sun, thats is part of one galaxy of millions of millions. it was amazing & the scientist at the end who said that we are all conected through the universe was so right.

we shoud all help each other throught these hard times that we are all expericing, i dont mean financially but phycially, emotionally. just been there for someone, listing to them, suport them. if we can all be abit more positive with each other, pull together we can make a difference.

why the hell are we fighting? why are we chucking bombs at each other, killing each other? we are only hurting ourselves!

there's all kinds of awesome things that happen. all sorts of situations where people help each other out and treat each other good. it's not news because it's truly the norm.

both the local news & the national news programmes would show atleast 1 positive news item, even if it wasnt really that news worthy or relevent. atleast it was positive, it didnt make you forget all the negative stuff that had just been reported for the past half hour but it atleast made you remember that positive things did happen.

now it seems its just negative negative negative!

then after watching the space programme it just made me think, whats the point in all the negativity, whats the point in bombing the crap out of each other? we are only hurting ourselves.

i'm sure if aliens came to this planet they would leave pritty quick because of all the fighting & negativity.

If I were a psychiatrist(I'm not) I would tell everyone as I do now to NOT view the news.I never view the news anymore personally. How much news does one need to be exposed to anyhow. And alot of it is sensationalized nonsense. And as mentioned good news does not sell.

i know your right, the news sucks. but my dad always said to me that we should watch the news to see whats happening in the world. that we could learn so much about ourselves just from watching the news.

while i think he is right in some respects, i think one of the big things i have learnt about myself is that being exposed to negativity on the news makes me pessimistic in the way i think.

the only good thing on TV now is the descovery section.

Your dad is right, but he probably remembers when news coverage was done competently.Like me he probably recalls the days before CNN and 24 hour so-called news stations.---News coverage years ago used to be much better than it is nowadays.20+ years ago most people just watched about a half hour of news in the early evening and that was it.I find when I watch the tele now I just view the good older shows(reruns) made back in the days when they made great tv.

I have a slight obsession with watching news. I always watch the news in the morning and also the 6 o'clock news if I'm home. And in our house, BBC news 24 is on a lot too. I just can't stand the feeling of not knowing what's going on.

A lot of the time though, I get more pissed off than depressed while watching the news.

The news is really sad and depressing and does no one any good.

People need to be informed but its no good if it makes them too sad.

Therefore I logically propose that all disasters are reported by way of songs and rhymes.
And the late evening news could have jokes about it too.

( ok I sense some cynics amongst you..)
