Unencumbered by the instinctive drive to protect possessions- and the regimenting imposition of employment... they are the ones who truly are free. Everyone else is captive in a prison of his/her own construct.
Yeah, sure they're unencumbered with trappings but they don't know where there next meals coming from, they're mentally free but caught in the perpetual slog of surviving.
most homeless people lead a pretty lonely existance. if that man had a big social circle he would be crashing at someone's house instead of on the streets. thats the same reason he's developed such a bond with his dog. he probably doesn't have anyone else. who needs freedom when the price is loneliness.
There's a homeless man in my city who has a cat he's had since it was a kitten. Recently he got a dog too. He has blankets they sit on with him.
^^^This. Plus, I don't think he's free at all. He still has a job to do only in his case it's simple survival.
The only task humans really have to do About as free as one can get. There are two choices, you can be homeless or you can be houseless.
Ya' know having spent a couple years being homeless myself I've just got to say that the notion that Homeless folks are lonely or they don't know where their next meal is coming from is really an incorrect assumption with few exceptions. (Small towns and rural areas being about the only exception) You have to remember that all major cities have many various organizations designed to help the homeless, Churches and non-profits all help to provide the basic needs of meals and other essentials of life. And if a Homeless individual is lonely it's almost purely by choice given the large population of homeless folks living in either inner city shelters, tent cities or communing in abandoned homeless shelters when allowed by the owners. (or otherwise) Not trying to Glamorize the lifestyle any but it works well for some who just don't like the mechanics of our modern society or culture's.
yeah the guy in the picture doesn't really look like he's just hoofing around the country for the sake of being a free spirit. in my town there is a bridge over a highway and its very common for the homeless to gather there and beg for money. One day I saw a young hippie-looking guy holding a sign that said "traveling the country. will work for money to get to my next destination." I stopped and talked to him for a few minutes because he intrigued me, and within a couple of minutes of talking to him I could tell there was a big difference between him and the other 4 people that were standing on the bridge at that time. He was doing it by choice, the other guys were just victims of very bitter circumstances.
No one has it all, it's all relative. Some people make bad choices, and end up loosing everything. The man in that picture could be just that..... Or he could be a free spirit, joyously adventuring this world, spreading his wealth of spirit to all.
i bet if i was homeless I have me a dog, and look just like that.. actually the person in the pic op looks humbling; as if he has it all.. What are possessions anyways>?
posessions are cool ass lamps and things to occupy your time. They aren't that hard to aquire if you got somewhere to put them.
