Unless you hadn't heard it is the Darling Queens anniversarry of accention to the throne this year - If you haven't heard then I would like to know how you have managed to block this news reaching you and advise how I might do the same!. To celebrate this momentous occassion her Majesties loyal subjects have been treated to some lovely programmes reminding us just how damn lucky we are to have had this unelected and unnecessary Monarch at the countrys helm for the last 60 years. The BBC has decided to celebrate the Jubilee by totally abandoning it's long tradition of unbiased broadcasting by becoming the Royalist Propaganda Machine, I've lost count of the amount of Royalist programmes we have had to far and the BBC have admitted that they do not plan to screen any Republican based programmes this year (or indeed for the last 5 years!). ITV have also joined in with the Royal love in. Practically every news bulliten for the past month has had a story about one of the Royals on their whistle-stop publicity tour - The Queen visiting a Gallery, Prince Harry joshing with Usain Bolt etc. One bulliten totally ignored the recent Isreali airial attack on the Gaza Strip which left 25 people dead to give us the big story - The Duchess of Cambridge delivering her first public speech (wow!, she can talk!). David Cameron is continuously telling us that this will lift the nations spirit. Giving that we have record level of unemployed youth, benefit caps, rising food and fuel prices and zero growth I would have thought that his resignation would be the better choice. Particularly galling is that the government is quite willing to let our most cherished national institution - The NHS die with it's recent Health Reform bill but will protect our most outdated, uneccessary and undemocratic institiuion (apart from the House of Lords of course!) at all costs. They are asking us to hold street parties to celebrate like they did with the Royal Wedding last year, a call largely ignored north of Watford. Even my Neices school is getting in with the Jubilee celebrations, which is rather strange considering she goes to Catholic School so she is being encouraged to celebrate something that she is officially excluded from on the basis of her religion. I'm sure by the time the big day comes there will be wall-to-wall coverage of the crowds waving little Union Jack flags and talking about how proud they are to be British - I will be thinking how on earth we can show ourselves as being a great nation on the world stage while celebrating a archaic ritual which shows the epitome of the repugnant class system which makes this country a laughing stock. God save the Queen? - God save us all from this crap.
