I don't know if this is a re-post, my computer at work is too slow to scan all 12 pages of book threads, but has anyone read The Red Tent? Anita Damiant, i think is the author, that could be a misspell though. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS BOOK. I think all women should read it, especially. There's something about it that's so poetic and elegant, but at the same time, the story is gritty and shocking at times. I love the connection the women have, the rituals and just the unspoken knowledge passed down to them and through them. I also like the way it takes characters from the old testament and sets them in a time when other religions and gods and goddesses were prevalent, you sort of sense a struggle between beliefs. It just gives a more human and intricate look at one of the stories of the Bible. Reading it makes me feel very powerful as a woman. Does anyone else feel this way? Any male opinions i'd be very interested in as well.

    Loved it.

What a great, if fictional, reminder that Judaism was a father's religion and the Shekinah was alive and well for the women.

It was not at all what I was expecting, but I found it to be an enjoyable nonetheless. I loved the intimacy between women, the legacy that was theirs exclusive of men, and the sisterhood and motherhood bonds. Fantastic read. I highly recommend it to any and all, but especially the girls.
