the silent letters thread

alright im not to sure if its just me, but does anyone else think silent letters are pointless? I mean for example, Home Depot..what is the point of the T? couldnt home depot save a bunch of money and get rid of the T so they wouldnt have to pay so much to have the huge T be put on the building and such. Haha i really just dont understand, anyone agree? How about some more words that have silent letters in them..? hehe

Mostly, silent letters are related to the origin of the word...

 

no silent letters make words different like porch and porche. the silent e turns a porch into a car... I could think of more examples if you wanted me to
