Did anyone see the Simpson's gay marriage episode? I saw bits and pieces when I was out to eat. I was curious about it because it had a viewer discretion thing and all that. I really wanted to see it!! I'm hoping they were for it and made everyone that's not feel ashamed, as they should. So what happened?
Unfortunately, I missed the episode, but I did see the promos for it during the Daytona 500 and was somewhat taken aback by the tagline at the end of the promo, "Viewer discretion is advised." A "Viewer discretion" warning for "The Simpsons" after 13 years on the air? This from the network that gave us those raunchy Bundys of "Married With Children?" Goddamn FCC! -- Skeeter
Patty is gay. It was a funny episode. I didn't get the parental advisory though. I though it was very open and accepting and not really raunchy or anything.
I saw it and it was an okay episode. The basic plot is Marge accepting Patty's homosexuality. I will say it was good to see the greed for money changing Homer's homophobic attitude towards gay marriage.
I saw it. It was OK. I like the part questioning Lenny and Carl's orientation. The answer Marge gave was "Let them figure that out in their own way" or something like that.
man it was hilaroius haha when homer saw himself in the mirror and then thought about making out with himself....haha so funny
damn, wish I could have seen it! Sounds interesting. Wait is Patty Marge's sister? Sorry, I'm never good with names.
It was really great until it turned out that the "woman" that Patty was marrying turned out to be a man. He was a man pretending to be a woman in order to play in the LPGA. Patty ended up loving him and marrying him anyway. I felt like it was a copout. In other words, it's OK to be a woman and love a woman if she turns out to be a he? You shouldn't hold it against people if they lie about what sex they are?
bizarre...that's not what happened at the end...Patty yelled "I like girls" then after a few other things it showed her and Thelma walking off together at the very end. The parental advisory thing was probably aimed more towards all those parents who are against gay marriage and don't want their kids to watch it being accepted on the simpsons and think it's ok. I was rather annoyed by the advisory. Hubby was the one who noticed it first. How annoying.
haha yeah what you talking about i think you made up your own ending for the show cause she didn't get married
Thank you for posting, Co0kiezGurl! Headymoechick was right when she said that Patty and Thelma didn't get married. However, I *thought* I saw the two women walking off. I was confused, and the ending now sounds even more ambiguous than I thought. Now that I look at it, the name "Thelma" is an interesting choice. Patty's sister is named Selma--if I remember correctly. There's also the movie "Louise and Thelma" with some female bonding (admittedly nonsexual), and there's the character Velma from Scooby-Doo who has caused some observers to wonder if she is a lesbian.
I loved last week's episode. Although, I didn't like it as much as the episode where Homer and Marge had a fight and Homer went ot live with a gay couple. But only because that episode I watched curled up with a pretty boy on the couch. Parental advisory? C'mon, fuck off, midcountry trash!
yeah, I have to admit, the parental advisory thing really pissed me off. It was kind of like saying, hmm.. half the country is not going to agree with this so.. don't watch it I guess. I guess that half of the country is really what pisses me off, not the advisory itself.
Sounds like a cool episode, I really want to see it now. I love the way the show comments on society in such a light hearted, satirical way. It's nice to know that they've made an episode that deals with homosexuality, although I know there have been a couple of minor gay characters in the past. Oh, and of course, Smithers.
has any1 seen the older episode when homer is afraid bert is going 2 turn out gay because they all start hanging out with a gay guy, that episode upset me, homer was being reli homophobic
When you say bert, i assume you mean bart. Seeming bert's been thought to be gay with ernie for some time, plus he's on another show. But in the shows defence, Homer is character and he stereotypes as the dumb, fat, self-centred father and if he were to stand up for gay rights and being supportive of a gay son, it'd probably ruin his image. Anyway, what a show contains, doesn't mean they share the same values/attitudes/beliefs, they'll include other values just to cover a wider perspective of the world and sometimes make some great comic material out of it.
