This can act as a sort of general discussion/support thread welcome to anyone working to lose weight or get in shape this Spring. Feel free to post your goals, questions, rants, current stats, techniques, diet/exercise plans, or anything else related. OK since I started the thread I guess I'll start: highest weight: 175 starting weight: 157 current weight: 155 goal weight: 140 height: 6'0" aiming to reach goal weight by June 1st (9 weeks) I'm sticking pretty well to a 1600 calorie diet, as well as exercising (bicycle or hiking) for at least 30 minutes on most days of the week. I've been at this pretty strictly for about two weeks and I'm beginning to really see changes. I lost 25 pounds (from 165 to 140) through diet change alone early in 2006 but through a series of excuses (work, school, parents divorce, apathy) I gained back half of it over the course of the rest of the year. I'm just glad I didn't get all the way back up to 165.. I am in a better state now than I was in then and I'm determined to get back down to 140 and STAY there. Two differences between then and now: 1)I'm exercising. 2)I'm changing my habits to things I can stick to long-term. The rest of the differences are mentally and emotionally based and all differences between then and now go hand in hand. Here's to wishing us all the best of luck in reaching our goals.
If nothing else I suppose this could be a thread for ME to post in. I've been doing well for the past 4 days and have fully adjusted to lower-calorie eating. I'll weigh myself thursday morning and hopefully show some losses, because I definitely feel it.
i want to loose weight but i'm just too lazy today i walked the dog, and did the excercise bike for 15/20 mins and danced around the house i'm pretty much the same as you weight and height wise.. little shorter...i carry most of my weight in my abs... i wish i was sleeping right now, i had planned on doing stuff tomorrow..but i couldn't sleep and will probably end up spend most of tomorrow in bed i don't handle schedules well :& i'm pretty comfortable with my body the way it is..i just want a flatter stomach and i smoke and drink and am in terrible shape...:&
Hey indian~summer You can still be lazy and lose weight! It's all about making small changes like having one less beer, filling up on more fruit and veggies, and making your portion sizes smaller. You don't have to do a ton of exercise if you don't want to. I lost those 25 pounds last year without doing much exercise at all.
the thing is elle, i don't eat that much as it is...and i'm vegetarian so what i do eat is often very healthy...the cutting down on drinking though is something i should do... i've stayed the same weight for yrs..and i did my bmi last night and i'm actually not over weight for my height too... the only way for me to get the "flat stomach, killer legs..buns of steel blah blah blah" is for me to exercise..and simply put, i'm a lazy bitch i'm gonna try and get back into swimming...i don't have my own pool so i'd have to walk to the pool anyways so that's a workout in itself...eh lazy :&
My goal this spring is to flatten out my tummy to before babies size and work my abs till they are a friggin washboard. LOL I just want all the muscles in that general area to be tight and firm, after the kids they flopped =) I want to go out to the park and use the walking trail as much as possible and maybe even work my way up into running...
My goal is to eat healthier food more consistently, bring my breakfast and lunch to work and get enough fiber and protein in my diet everyday. I would also like to tone up the back of my arms and maybe lose 5 or 10 more pounds before June.
Cool guys, nice to hear some good goals. I got in some good body weight and dumbbell exercises earlier and I weighed in Thursday morning at 154.0, down from 155.7. Slow progress, but loss nonetheless. I feel like I'm gaining muscle surprisingly fast. My main cardio is an exercise bike and its really giving my leg muscles some definition. I look thinner but don't weigh as little as I would expect, so I'm assuming that is because of a bit of muscle gain, which is fine by me. I meant to get in a good hike this week but couldn't find the time; hopefully I'll be able to do it next week. Yesterday, I didn't eat much early in the day, and then overate at dinner and was annoyingly full and lethargic the rest of the night. It's interesting to get in tune with my body more and realize that it is much happier when I don't overstuff it.
You're a really huge inspiration to me. You have lost so much weight this past year and look so incredible!
Alright well my body issues have irked me long enough so I am embarking on a voyage of attempting to be healthy in the ways of eating and physical activity. I am 5'3''....if you round up, and about 135 lbs now? I guess it doesnt seem like alot but I want to shed the excess and tone my body and feel healthier and brighter. I am a vegan (although a newbie therefore I do eat pizza and ice cream sometimes still), but want to really really focus my eating intents on fresh veggies and fruits more often than bread and carb foods. Also, I stopped doing yoga for a long time and I *need* to keep that up to increase my overall flexibility and continue my internal wellness. I guess I know what I need to do already!! Also: switch all the coffee for herbal tea!! I guess by the end of April I want to be feeling healthier and looking more glowing than currently. I dont know if I have a goal weight but I liked myself when I was 120 or even 115 so we'll see what happens to my body naturally.
Thank you Bella_Desordre, that's so kind of you to say! Good goals Cate8. I'm not vegan but am trying to stay away from cheese and ice creme as they're both huge weaknesses of mine AND they give me digestive problems. I've done well today with moderation and not overeating, but I need to go grocery shopping and get some more veggies as I'm lacking a little in that department. Overall I am happy with where I am and I look forward to seeing where I am in a month at this rate.
I suppose I should start posting here instead of in my own little thread... I've been seriously working on turning my health around for a few quick months. In late December I started cutting down on my dairy, egg, and fish intake (I already didn't eat other animal products) and shortly after New Year's I was pretty much a full-fledged vegan. That dietary change, combined with some regular exercise and staying more active in my day-to-day life, has helped me to drop some pounds (and more importantly, feel a LOT better!!) When I started this leg of my journey in late December I weighed myself at 238. Yesterday I weighed in at 205. On average, I seem to be losing around 2 pounds a week (sometimes 1, sometimes 3...) My real goal in all this is simply to be healthier, to feel good in my body and good about myself. I have PCOS, which has made it extremely hard in the past to lose wieght. I've always had very little appetite, which is sometimes a problem... but making myself eat something in the mornings, within a couple hours of getting up, definitely helps to "turn on my metabolism for the day". I've been eating as much fresh fruit and veg as possible, beans, tofu, and tempeh for protein, and grains only when they're whole (whole wheat bread/tortillas, brown rice, etc.) So far I haven't set any weight goals for myself, but I think I'm about ready.... I still haven't replaced my old Oregon license for TN yet, and the OR one expires on my b-day this year (sept. 5) so that's the absolute latest I can get it replaced. The license I have is more than 5 years old, and the weight on it still says 170 (about what I actually weighed then, though it might have been a slight underestimate). So, before it comes time when I *must* get the thing replaced, I want to make it true so I don't have to change the weight for my new license. It doesn't have to be exact, just somewhere in the ballpark. So that gives me until September at the latest to lose somewhere in the neighborhood of 30-35 more pounds. I don't think that's unrealistic, since I've pretty much lost 30 pounds in 3 months. Wish me luck!
It is really inspiring to read all your goals and the progress you have made. I started 4 weeks ago. It began with cutting out *junk* soda's, candy and sweets. Its going surprisingly well considering I have constant temptation lurking around my kitchen. My man is super thin and can eat anything and not gain an ounce, he has a huge sweet tooth. He's not unsupportive of my efforts but he dosn't realize he makes it more difficult for me to be good I no longer have cravings for sweets or soda and I am so happy to be over that hump!! I am taking baby steps to be more healthy, I hope to drop some weight but its not my main focus. I also have PCOS which makes it all that more difficult. I'm not sure what my current weight is (I plan to buy a scale today) I would like to be down about 20 pounds. This week I am cutting out beer, I dont' drink much as it is but when I do its generally guiness draught, I could switch to light beer but frankly I would rather cut it out completly than settle for yellow beer Thanks for the inspiration!
I started at the gym 2-3 months ago, and go almost everyday or often as possible. height: 5'7" to 5'9" somewhere Starting weight: 150 weight now: 137 goal: 125-130 plus I want everything toned up. I've been weight lifting as well as doing lots of cardio. I wanna look like Angelina Jolie in the Tomb raider days, when she actually had muscles, and not the twig she is now.
How's everyone doing? OK you probably don't even want me to ask after this holiday weekend..Haha. My mom wasn't in town, so I didn't really "do" Easter this year. I didn't get my usual goody-filled basket (don't laugh) and didn't have any kind of special dinner so Sunday was really just a normal day for me. Monday, though, I woke up early to take advantage of the 1/2 off Easter sales and bought myself some Cadbury creme eggs and a chocolate bunny. I only ate a few pieces of candy throughout the day, and I think I still stayed within my calorie limits, so all is good. However, it had been a long time since I had eaten that much sugar, and boy did my body hate it! I felt lethargic for most of the day, and I had a weird palpitation in my arm. I also couldn't sleep very well last night. Just goes to show me that I really feel so much better when I eat healthier and stay away from junk like refined sugar. Anyway, I hope all of you had a good weekend and are getting back on track (if you got derailed).
Hey everyone, it's inspiring to hear your good progress! I've been trying to do the whole exercise and healthy diet thing... never really have been a big junk food person, but my bad eating habit is large portions of food for lunch and dinner.I've pretty much cut snacks out, and when I do have snacks it's fruit. My problem is that when I get home from school, I'm too tired to work out, so I try to get up early and work out (I have a stationary bike)... however, I set my alarm but just end up laying in bed not wanting to work out! When I do get up and work out, my goal is to bike for 30 minutes, instead I go for 10 at the most(I hate the burning feeling in your legs)... any tips that will help me be more consistent? btw, I weigh 139 pounds, and my goal is to get down to about 128... and I'm 5'7".
I have lost 22 pounds since February. I have six more pounds til I reach my first goal. After that I have 20 more pounds til I reach my final goal so I'm almost half way there.
Wow, 22 pounds! Great job LuckyStripe! What does your program look like? Saeru, one thing I can recommend to you to help you keep going on the bike longer is to listen to music. Studies have actually been done that prove that people listening to music work out longer than those who don't. It really makes the time go by fast. By the time you've heard only 5 or 6 songs, 30 minutes has passed. Additionally, instead of trying to bike for 30 minutes right off the bat, start off doing 10 minutes and increasing that by 5 minutes once a week. Within a few weeks you'll be doing 20 minutes at a time, then within a couple more weeks you'll be doing 30 minutes at a time and so on. It's what I've done for both running and bicycling and its very effective. Hope this helps. As for me, I'm definitely a solid 151.0 now, which means I've lost 4 pounds in three weeks. I have 6 weeks left to go and I'm feeling very optimistic. Eating 1600 calories a day was actually really easy and a good way to get into the habit of eating smaller portions. It was so easy that I've decided to drop my daily calorie intake down by 200 calories so I'm eating 1400 a day. That's 400 calories for breakfast, 400 for lunch, and 600 for dinner--plenty of food if I make smart choices and don't waste my calories on junk. I'm hoping that this decrease in calories will help me get to 140 in the next six weeks.
