    Henry VIII was the first to make gay sex a capital offense, along with witchcraft. Until then it was just an ecclesiastical offense, or church, crime. And then in 1885 they made gross indecency illegal. Gross indecency was anything from kissing to talking about opera. Men in Detroit were arrested for that up till 2001 using a 1964 statute.
