I agree but we'll probably need some sort of compromise to end this. As they say, a compromise is a solution that satisfies no one.

In an ideal world that would the best scenario, but I think Putin would consider that a defeat and not be happy.

I agree. Putin needs to save face, and not appear to have been defeated.
A brokered-settlement, ending this conflict/war, and satisfying their national objectives, would benefit the entire planet.
Tragically, innocent lives have been lost. There’s no going back, but the future may be saved.

Attempts to 'appease' Hitler duing WW2 was a massive FAILURE.
It would be foolish to do the same for Putin now that we are in WW3.
Learn from history and let's not make the same mistakes.

Yep thats my worse fear . Then he will reform give more training to his troops ,replace lost equipment and then possibly try again. At the moment as things stand ,The Russian military are a lame duck. Nato is United and strong . Putin will want to improve things from his side of things and they will get stronger . Militarily its been one cock up after another . He wont make that mistake again .

This is why Putin should get nothing in the Ukraine.

Well, he can get those body bags filled with his dead soldiers back... Little else.

They have left some in the streets !

I think its just going to be one massive cover up regarding their losses . Thats why its important in my view not to take this war out on the Russian people .

What I see is this... Russia is looking to the future. There is a need for them to divest fully from Western influence and I think largely there is an opportunity for us (the West - America and other countries in Western Europe and our allies) to paint a new picture of Russia.

Do I have some convoluted vision? No. They are blatantly war-driven and that, in my actual honest opinion is a violation of morality. This is not the way to achieve a vision - convoluted or otherwise...

What I'm trying to say is it's clear they want a future free of Western influence. They do not like our trajectory, and do not want our considerable influence to hinder the trajectory of their affairs, nor discredit or malign their influence with their allies.

We are in a rut in that regard because the tendency when we are at war is to rally and align against the foe. Russia has made themselves an easy target for an America that is still bruised and battered from its involvement in the Afghanistan and Iraq campaigns of 2001 - very recent (August?).

We are used to investing a foothold against... The problem? As I see it, Russia has a sophisticated system of government. When you discredit that by saying they're "communist" I think you're impeding our own governmental potential and arguably our direction as a country toward a social deomcracy.

The limitation is that when we have an adversary, we see young people go off to war and they aren't college educated. They don't have the benefit of knowing "social programming" or state funding... nothing. They want to paint Russia with as much contrast as they can...

But can he maintain the loyalty of his troops? For that matter can he maintain the loyalty of the Russian people? He's already being met with a growing resistance!

The rationale is slightly different to that of the West. These troops are conscripted and so they are seen as doing their duty for Mother Russia .They dont get any choice but to serve their country. Anyone who opposes Putin ends up "dissappearing" or in Maximum Security Prison on made up charges. This guy will only leave office when he is taken away in a casket. I hope I am wrong .

Well so much for the Russians scaling back on the Capital .

Just watching CNN live and the sirens have gone off and shelling/explosions heard

The map is a tad old but it still works as progress hasnt been made since mid March .

The Western Military experts can see why the Russians want to withdraw troops from the Capital perimeter

    1) The Russian supply lines are stretched here

    2) The Ukrainians are on the offensive

    3) It would allow the Russian to send troop s to the Donbas Region( where Donetsk is on the map) . If you look at the map above where Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia are ,then that is the likely destination of the withdrawn troops. They will help to form an encirclement of the Ukrainian forces in the Donbas Region cutting them off . A very old Soviet WW2 tactic .

Good point, but the present world’s ability to communicate, unite and arrange a concerted anti-thug effort is unprecedented. Every country is now interdependent in some way shape or form on other countries. .. almost like the healthy human body is a dependence upon several separate organ systems working to provide for the common good.
The wayward “leader” should be dealt-with like a cancer to the human body.
    There is hope in unity.

It looks like the weapons are getting through to the Ukrainians from Nato :)

I cant wait to see a future Discovery or History Channel programme confirming the secret supply of weapons :)

More or less the point I was making about Russian Troop regrouping .

More like a save of face than a proper peace offering.
The Ukrainians need to go hell for leather now with Nato weapons support and push the Russians out.
That's the only way peace will come to Ukraine
