I just have to laugh at this because it's so pathetic. I keep hearing on different programs how certain groups of Whites don't feel other Whites are respecting them so now they want minority status. Some complain because they are blind or deaf or physically challenged like no other race has that problem. I remember an episode of Designing women where Julia Sugarbaker complained about some woman wearing a dog collar and was outraged and compared it to a Black person being shackled. (The only problem with that analogy is that she forgot that there are Blacks that are actually women. I always hear how some compare themselves to other minorities and feel that they have a civil rights issue. (Like there are no minorities that are blind, deaf, or physically challenge.) They don't even acknowledge the other racial groups as having their affliction as if to say that they don't count. Last night though really did it for me. I was watching the Logo channel and I heard a gay guy on the channel compare his plight with that of the illegal immigrants. He went on to say that his fight is as hard as theirs and that the struggles he endures because he's gay is the same as the struggles that the illegal immigrants face. It's bad enough that the only ones that are considered illegal are Mexicans but it's even funnier when you have this gay guy saying that his fight is just as hard. (I just no there are no such things as gay Mexicans by the way.) I'm just wondering why the so-called White minority groups don't embrace the other nationalities they have within their own cause. Why do they feel that people should be fair to them when they don't even acknowledge that there are people of different skin fighting just as hard for the same rights? I just thought I'd get you mad at me so I can play yahoo games lol.

while racism is a big thing still... a lot of people just like to play the victim and the whole 'boo hoo hoo woe is me."

I get discriminated against. I walked into a store and my friend was asked to leave because she had a bag. I had a bag and no one said anything to me. I walk into places and people walk to the back of the store and in the other room like I won't rob them. How do they know the money is still gonna be there when they come back. I have to wait forever to be served at places because they think I have all day. I had to wait 15 minutes for someone to fix me an omelet at a $14 Sunday Buffet brunch. They think that I won't get mad because we go almost every week. They don't know it but next week we are going some place else, maybe Red Lobster. Just because we go out ever Sunday and spend lots of money doesn't mean you can make me wait 15 minutes for my omelet. [IMG]

while that sucks and I'm sorry, there are still some people who will turn anything into a 'your discriminating against me." thing. whether that is the case or not

no one wants their own troubles and stuff ignored or marginalized. everyone deserves basic respect, and just because someone doesn't have as many troubles as another doesn't lessen the pain, really. hurtful words and behavior still hurt. on an individual basis, we can let it slide, which i think is typically the better way to go personally, and try to remember in the future not to let our own petty behaviors occur again. but that doesn't end the fact that bigots come in all shapes/sizes/cultures.

perhaps they're not acknowledging the ethnicity of their fellow members because they see their particular issue as more important, their latino background is less important than their gay struggle, or their deafness, or being a quadriplegic (sp?)...perhaps when one has those particular issues to deal with, race and ethnicity become far less important in the bigger picture, and their shared troubles become more of a bond than skin color.

I know, it's just like people saying they're dysfunctional. It use to be a learning experience but now everyone is dysfunctunal and they actually compete to become the the top nut.

dysfunction is the onlly thing that anyone respects now. only the ability to say you're life is fucked up and to be able to say "yeah, i've known agony, betrayal, pain" is the only way to be included anymore.
