I am REALLY wanting to go to the zoo right now, take my son for the first time....:D. I've been wanting to do that since he was born though. Sorry, ranting and rambling...:D. Just extremely delirious and tired.

Ours is okay...I like seeing the predators...all they have is a thick sheet of glass separating you from tigers and lions and such, and you can get really close to them....it's great.

lol...I must admit, I LOVE going to the zoo, but at the same time, I am torn about it. It upsets me to see all those animals being confined and ogled over, even though I am paying to do it. At the same time, though, I like being up close with them so I can learn more about them. I know, it doesn't make a lick of sense....lol.

Some zoos are cool. The zoo in Abilene, TX, is very cool. Because the keepers are very much attached to their "clients" (the animals, of course, not the people who come to oogle them). I've been on an official tour of that one, through the back entrance and everything. My friend that I went there with was friends with one of the zookeeper's daughters, so we got to see everything. It was pretty neat.

I volunteer at my oldest son's school, and I'm supposed to go with my son's kindergarten class in a few weeks on a field trip to a local zoo. Should be lots of fun! Course, my twins are jealous and started crying when their big brother had to prance around the room saying he was going and they weren't. [IMG]

I've had to promise another trip for everyone in the near future. [IMG]

You mean the twins? Yeah, my oldest son really loves his brother and sister, but he also really loves tormenting them too. [IMG]

    Zoos make me sad.

I mean, let's teach kids that it's OK to lock things up in a cage...

    :(

    That's not right.

I don't like the caged thing either, but most of the animals that I've seen at the zoo are not in cages. They are in open areas. :)

Open areas are still "cages" because they aren't as big as their natural habitats and they can't escape it. They aren't able to live normal lives...they don't hunt for their food like they would in the wild, which leaves them bored 95% of the time after they eat their bowls of food. I mean, I hardly see any animals in zoos do anything but sleep and pace...pacing is a way to show that they are nervous. Sometimes you also see animals rocking their heads back in forth...in humans that is a sign of psychosis and mental illness. Zoos are extremely unhealthy for animals...

I remember the last time we went to the zoo in Amarillo, I was in junior high. And a bunch of kids from my class spewed in the parking lot. It was mainly because they had spent our entire lunch time at the park, spinning each other on the merry-go-rounds promptly after they ate. I tend to associate zoos with vomit now. I'm really not sure of my feelings towards the entrapment of animals. I haven't heard enough of the pros and the cons yet. I should look into it. I do know one thing, though, I hate hate hate circuses. Ick. Poor animals. And clowns...they give me the heeby jeebies.
