Here is an illustration of what I think is wrong with todays society, much more so than guns or anything else. http://youtube.com/watch?v=O6_oXxTWHmo I see videos like this all the time. Everyone who walked on by and did nothing is part of the problem today. This is sickening, People are going to have to start taking a stand again someday and say we will not tolerate this type of thing anymore. If the general public would take a stand against such dickheads and get involved people would be less inclined to think they can get away with this type of thing. The guys in the background could have easily detained or if necessary beat this dudes ass to subdue him. I know I will not walk by if I see something like this. If you want something to protest lets protest ourselves for becomming a society that would allow such a thing.
I agree! seeing that made me sick to my stomach My man watched it with me and he said... Hell No.. that he would have been all up in that guys face.. I'm glad he thinks that way too I can not believe anybody would just stand by and watch that happen... I don't like to get into others peoples shit but that was way too obviously wrong.. not like it could have been mistaken for two young guys having a heated dispute.. the guy was 91... wtf is wrong with people that was sad.. but it should be seen
Thats is disgusting! I cannot beleive that people would stand by and just let somethinglike that happen, especially to an elderly man! No way in the world could I stand by and watch that happen - admittedly I would probably end up getting a smack to the head for my troubles, but for crying out loud, the man was 91 and completely unable to defend himself. People never cease to shock and dissapoint me!
I find our complacency to violence today unconscienable. We walk away from crap like this but we train our young people to believe some behaviors are acceptable and others aren't. I was recently stopped at a stop sign in my own vehicle and a middle schooler walked up to my truck and shouted that smoking will kill you (Shit I am aware of that. It's a choice I made for myself. I wasn't blowing my smoke in anyone's private air space.), but we as a society turn our backs on violence like what happened to this veteran. And we cover for wife beaters, child and senior abuse over and over again. We tell our young that young men are violent and that's ok behavior. Where has the balance in life gone. Marketing not family or societal values has decided what's acceptable and what isn't. We are responsible! And it's time we talked about violence against others and made it as unacceptable as smoking.
Gardener you are correct, we need to take a good hard look at our youth and realize the power over the planet they will one day possess. Let's leave them with life and earth loving values and morals instead of "destruction= gratification" and "me first" which are the morals we're projecting now.
I think fear is what holds most people back...fear that they will be hurt, fear that they will aggrevate a situation, fear that they will bring the troubles back in to their own lives...... I remember once I was at a supermarket and there was a man yelling at his wife and kid, telling them how stupid they were etc etc. I just kind of watched in amazement that this guy was doing this in public, but thought to myself, none of my business and saying something will only make things worse for them when they go home. However, just as I had made the decision to forget about it he hit the little boy. I went mental, yelling at the guy, something jsut snapped inside of me and I often wonder what happened to that women and kid when they got home and how much worse I had made their lives cos I couldn't keep my mouth shut? I just can't deal with people hurting kids and old people, I was at the markets the other day with my father and saw a man slap his 2 year old across the face....I launched at them...but Dad practically tackled me to stop me from making a scene...'you'll only make it worse' he told me. Is it only aggrevating the situation if we intervene??
I can't believe the compassion of the victim to say that his attacker needs to get his life together. Of course, in another video the victim said the attacker AND the onlookers should be locked up for a long time. Hey English people, NOW do you see why we have guns here? This is a fairly common occurance, and we have very few Jags and Bentleys here. The old guy got his bell rung for a shitty Malibu. Like you don't have your own issue with chavs or whatever ghetto element has replaced them...
