Thoughts on this 'Conservative Hippie' manifesto?

A conservative hippie is one who speaks in absolutes that have no basis in reality.
Let's compare the "practical hippie to the conservative hippie"

C(onservative) H(ippie)
"Peace and love are still important to a conservative hippie but the conservative hippie grew up and realizes it sometimes takes bombs and guns to bring real peace."
P(ractical) H(ippie)
A practical hippie understands that bombs and guns will only ever perpetuate murder and the endless cycle of retaliation. The practical hippie understands that "real peace" has not, and will never exist until people stop murdering other people. War has raged throughout human history causing endless misery - it has yet to and will never bring about "real peace"? Maybe it's about fucking time we tried a different approach - one that doesn't involve killing? After all isn't that what "real peace" is? Not peace for some - peace for all.

A conservative hippie is one who wishes that peace could be obtained with talks but realizes it is not always possible.

A practical hippie is one who knows that peace can always be obtained when negotiations are approached from a standpoint of equality, mutual respect and through the understanding that conflict always and only arises as a result of an unequal and unfair distribution of resources. A practical hippie also recognizes and understands that wars and conflict of a supposed moral, religious or ideological nature are always, and I do mean always, are born from the basic premise that one group or nation either perceives or experiences an inequal share of resources or covets the resources of another group or nation. The moral, religious or ideological "cause" is always artificially attached to this act of violence and aggression with deliberate propaganda.

A practical hippe is one that understands and recognizes the disgustingly wasteful and needless concept of "defense" and desires to see the end of the entire concept and need for "defense" by achieving "real peace" for the first time in human history.

A conservative hippie believes the rights of oppressed women in other nations are just as important as those in America.

A practical hippie believes in the eradication of oppression altogether on a global scale, but understands that oppression, war and murder only creates more oppression, war and murder for everyone - including women. The practical hippie also understands that war is a horribly inefficient and ineffective way to change misguided and evil thinking. World War II brought about the end of Nazi Germany and Japanese Imperialism. But Nazism, Anti-Semitism, Genocide and Imperialism are still alive and well in the world today.

A conservative hippie is one that appreciates women having rights but realizes it is hypocritical to not allow the unborn babies to have their rights to live.

A practical hippie appreciates and understands that, in a world where resources are responsibly managed and made equally accessible, the concept of "unwanted pregnancy" might very well no longer exist (except perhaps in the case of rape - and even then, I think a reasonable and responsible alternative could be found). Carrying a child, giving birth to a child, and raising a child would no longer be viewed as an impossible hardship for anyone.

A conservative hippie will not wear pink and go around protesting war, when there are women in other nations that need to be set free from evil men.

A practical hippie will always protest war and view the act of war as the greatest evil. The practical hippie recognizes that until we address and overcome the needless and pointless inequities in this world, people (women, children and men) will always be subjected to and suffer at the hands of greed and evil.

 

This sounds like a contradiction.

Bombs to obtain peace is 100% against the whole hippie belief system.

Could someone explain the difference between a "conservative hippy" and a regular conservative?

 

Apparently, the latter likes the Beatles and the Stones

 

Sounds like "former hippie" would be a more appropriate name.

 

Seems like rhetoric designed to make aging hippies feel okay about selling out their youthful ideals.

 

Or how about a conservative trying to spew forth Murdochian Propaganda while poorly disguised as a liberal.

 

I wonder if 40 years from now there will be a grunge slacker manifesto for my generation.

 

The defenseless wouldn't need defending if no one was attacking. That's the goal for all of us, isn't it? Educating ourselves so that the desire to attack someone is always squashed by reason and compassion. And for the people who say that people can't change, look at some of the huge progress made in the last few decades. Yeah, it's two steps forward and one back, but I believe we can get there. If so many people can admire public figures like Martin Luther King, Gandhi, the Dalai Lama, John Lennon, and other outspoken peace advocates then we live in a world where this progress can continue.

 

Apologetic conservativism. Neo con philosophy is in direct opposition to a political philosophy of pacifism no matter how you look at it.

I myself could see being convinced of a military policy of intervention in scenarios like the Democratic Republic of Congo or Darfur, but I think It'd take a lot of convincing that our motives were benevolent, and I think all my trust in the militarys capacity bringing forth a peaceful regime chance has been shattered in the past decade or so of warmangering.

 

Conservative hippie? Bullshit. That's so close to an oxymoron I'm almost laughing.

Its a compromising hippie to be precise. Traitors every one of them. Just too embarrassed to admit that real total peace is the answer. They've been in so many arguments with modern day conservatives that the conservatives with which they've been arguing have breached the true hippie mindset of the 'hippie' in question. They have compromised with the enemies of the peace to appear more 'realistic' to themselves. Full of shit.

Look at this hatred, it's a shame, I guess he or she is just some kid. Some radial left winger that does not believe in peace and understanding just filled with hatred. All the radicals have ever done was make trouble and create chaos!! Never accomplishing a damn thing!! Anyone that posts stuff like conservatives or any one group that sucks is NOT I repeat NOT a hippie in any sense of the word.

 

This venom is all too well deserved. Radicals? Murdering thousands of innocent civilians (not to mention the thousands of U.S. soldiers maimed and killed) and selling god damn ribbon stickers to put on the back of your fucking SUV to feel all warm and cozy about it - that's radically despicable.

I remember people like you having the nerve to call me un -american less than a decade ago because I voiced my opinion about the war in IRAQ. I remember getting punched in the goddamn head for daring to point out that I thought it was a huge mistake to invade IRAQ when there was no evidence that Saddam Hussein had anything to do with 9/11 and asking - aloud - "why the fuck are we invading IRAQ"? Did you ever go on the FBI's most wanted list and look up Osama Bin Laden? No where did it say he was wanted for the 9/11 attacks. Why? Because the director of the FBI didn't think there was enough evidence to prove that he had played any direct part in it. There still isn't. I'm not saying the world isn't better off without these two men in it, but it doesn't justify invading a soveign nation(s).

The Grateful Dead may have been apolitical, but I'm sure as hell not - and neither were the hippies that protested the Vietnam War, and neither are the hippies that protest WAR today.
