hellow everyone. I've been dreaded for close to 7 years now. I don't use a lot of products, actually none as of right now (lack of cash ), but I have used a little lock peppa and wax in the beginning stages, nothing as of lately. I have a question about the roots. I don't care for root rubbing a lot, mainly because I'm a bit to lazy to sit there and root rub over 150 pencil sized dreads, also because of the possiblity of breakage, but I do root rub once every now and again. I start a new professional type job soon, a job that I have to where a button up shirt and such to work, they told me my hair was no problem as long as it was more presentable. I don't think its bad as it is, my hair is sectioned neatly, I started with the back combing BTW. But, ya got to do what the boss says, and there is no way I'm cutting them off, so any suggestions? I don't have a lot of lose hairs or untightened dreads, but I do have some. I read some where on a forum that I can't seem to find anymore, someone said they took washers, or something like that, things of rubber that could be found in different sized, I think a bit bigger then beeds or something. He said you just put them around the dread when you sleep and they tighten up for a few days. I think this would help a lot. Also, anyone use the dread tool before? I have a feeling I'm speaking to a mostly all natrual community, so please no flaming Pictures below
screw all thast crap i think the boss would be fine with ya just tying them back maybe removing that white string thats fallin aparrt in the front dread tools weaken dreads poking holes in them umm just making sure u remove all that gross wax and lock peppa crap will make em alot neater and less flaky/smelly/gross they look perfectly fine except maybe alirttlke oily or sticky from wax (god please dont tell me ya used wax for 7 years eeeek ) once ya got em good and clean making them presentable just means tying them back neatly
i've worked in an office didnt hafta wear a tie or anything but i worked in a non proffit web hosting org managing 200+ volunteer web designers, so id have meetings with the heads of virtualy every non profit group in the city, it was several years ago so my dreads wernt quite draggin on the ground yet but were at least getting close to my knees.. id just tie em back and that was that.. ive also started my oen lil non proffit project and had meetings with the mayor, city council person and congressman at the very most id ever do was tuck my beard dreads inside my shirt and wear a tam (did that just once for the4 interview for that job) your boss sounbds like hes ok with the dreads, just doesnt want em all sticky and gross with wax find my wax removal thread and do all ya can to get the gunk out and you'll be fine also, to really have a neat apearance instad of a tam, just get some black material and wrap your dreads up..all 1 color like black woiuld look more professional then like a khenti cloth or rasta colors or anything.. something like this buit instead of so much atop the head hangin towards the back
Well, typing them up does work, but I still have the lose hairs that make me look that much less profesional, its nothing THAT big to worry about, but the job is rather important, maybe some streight aloe? Ya, I heard the dread tool makes them loosen, but I've also heard some good things about it. I was told its nothing more then a croche needle, and that its a better idea to just get a extremely small chroching needle. I wouldn't think that it would make my dreads untighten, would it? If I thread it through the actual dreaded area of the dreads, that are already tight, right? Also, no, I haven't used the wax for 7 years. Honestly, I don't hate there wax, I think it can make nice dreads, but I don't think its needed at all, but I don't think its as bad as people claim it to be. if you follow how the companys say to use it, ya, it is bad, but if you only use it in the beginning to estabish a hold, if you don't want to go the more natrual way, then I don't find it bad. People just have a hard to understand how much of a pain in the A** it is to get all the way out. I used the wax in the beginning, once in a blue moon maybe, but I like the feel of aloe, streight from the plant, I don't like the feel of the wax at all. And I am pretty sure I got all the wax out a long time ago, every month I do a ACV wash to get them extra clean, and also, when I have the money I use a Clairfying shampoo, so I think its all clean I never noticed a problem with the Lock Peppa, but thats because I don't use it often at all, I've only used it once, and that was a friend that used it for me Only thing I use any more is the ocean and some aloe vera, well, the soap too. pretty close up pic of my dresds its not that odvios that they are completely covered with fuzz i never ince did anything to controll frizz or fuzz no aloe no crochetting no wax no nuthin just let em be fuzzyt and when i doi the deep cleanse theyre extra fuzzy but unless your examining each dread closely ya cant tell you are alwways moree criticle of your owen dreads then anyone elkse your boss just wants a neat professionbal apearance as in clean dreads, tied back neatly
have you tried sea salt spray? about a month after i started my dreads the roots were loosening and sea salt spray worked pretty well on it. dreadhead locking accelerator is what i used, but i'm sure any old spray would be just as effective.
I think you'll be ok w/ just tying them back. I had to go to a few court dates and my hair was a frizzy MESS. Somehow it still all worked out in my favor, so maybe its true what SoaringEagle has said; no one notices it as much as you.
Did you ever cut your dreads? I feel like if they are seven years old, they should be longer than they are in the pictures. Soaringeagle's dreads are 18 years old. So, I feel like it'd be reasonable to think your dreads should be about half as long as his. And his seem to be between 3-5ft long. So somewhere in the range of 1.5-2.5ft long (all over) for you? Just curiosity asking.
