To those who don't use Dr Bronner's...

What do you use to wash your dreads? I've been using expensive Aveda Men's shampoo, it's good for the Earth, so I thought it would be good for my hair, and it does work well, but at 30$ for a small bottle, it's not exactly affordable.

So, a few hours ago I used a Dove bar (I refuse to call it a Beauty Bar, as I'm a chauvinist male) and the results were nice. However, I'm finding that my dreads are more soft than usual after washing.

What does everyone else use? And those who use Dr B's cannot post, because I don't want five pages of "dr bronners lawl".

I generally wash once a week with baking soda first followed by Bronners. Each by themselves don't exfoliate my scalp well enough but together get my head totally clean. I don't wet my hair get wet between washes because it takes so long to dry.

I use LUSH shampoo bars and I love em. I'd think dove would leave quite a bit of residue in the hair. I wash every 2/3 days or more. I just can't resist putting my head under the warm water when I'm in the shower! How come you don't wash yours that much chemigals? atm mine don't take that long to dry though, I'll probably wash less when they get more mature and take ages to dry.

I went to the nearest health food store (Wild by Nature) and picked up a bottle of Hemp Shampoo. It's natural and works a LOT better than Bronner's (in my opinion). It's made by Nature's Choice, or something like that. It smells like heaven, also.

I was my hair 2-3 times a week, and I've had that bottle since I started my dreads. So it's lasted me about 7 months so far.

I want to try something different tomorrow night,
I have a Knotty boy bar, but I think it will cause exactly the same problems as the rest!
I could try Dr Bronners again, but I really don't think it will help, regardless of the amount used.
What possible options do I have with ingredients:
    Dr Bronners Teatree liquid
    Salt
    Teatree
    Small amount of Bicarb
    Orange essential oil
A small part of a Knotty Boy Patouchli bar
    Lemon

I'm seriously considering just using bicarb all the time and alternating between essential oils. Dr. B. will remain my facial wash though :)

It's really easy as well. I've always found it difficult to feel like I'm cleaning each dread properly, almost like I ought to be treating each one as a garment I'm hand-washing....you know? Ensuring the soap is worked into each individual lock, and rinsing each one in the same way. With the bicarb I know I've soaked the whole lot, it sits on my head for half an hour or so and I rinse. :) Suits me anyway. Also, I really feel as though using ACV is like having a conditioner :)
