My daughter is 2, (she is still in a crib)and I was really wanting to get her a toddler bed, but I dont know if she is old enough. Everyone I know says yes, but still. I'm just afraid she will not want to lay down when she figures out she can just get out of bed, andIm afraid she will get up in the middle of the night and play in her room, and get hurt or somthing. I shut the door when she goes to sleep every night, so I dont think she will get out of her room, but then again you never know.

    Any thoughts???

i would say that 2 is old enough--but then i had my son in a "big boy bed" (mattress on the floor) by age 1 (he had a baby sister on the way, and i wanted him to get used first, so he wouldn't feel like he was being kicked out), and my daughter in the same set-up by 10 months (we moved and i didn't want to drag the crib along with us).

i personally loved it when the kids were old enough to move out of the crib, because they would come to me in the morning, instead of crying for me to come get them, hehe.

Assuming the bed is low to the floor, it's probably safe enough too.

We put Dakota in a toddler bed at about 18 months. I found a really cute little hippie car bed on ebay. The first week we set it up by his crib. He went right to sleep in the bed and stayed in it in the morning until we came and got him. The second week we took the crib away. The first thing he did was to try to move the bed into the same location the crib had been. Again he went right to sleep in it. After a few days he would wait until he heard us up in the morning and then run to meet us. Since we had two good weeks we sold the crib. Well, guess what? He hasn't slept in his bed since then. He'd sleep on the couch or in bed with us or on the floor, but not in the bed. Now he has a smaller toddler bed in our bedroom. He sleeps in it but only when we are both in bed. If we try to put him down while we are still up forget it. Even if one of us goes to bed with him, he will stay up with the other one. I really don't think he's getting enough sleep at night. He's up until 11 almost every night. Then we get up in the morning at 7:30. But I don't know what to do with him. And the saddest thing is that the really cute little hippie car bed sits unused in his empty bedroom.

Kathi, that bed is the cutest thing I've ever seen!

I put Madeline on a mattress on the floor when she was about 22 months old. I left it that way for a while, because she rolled out of it alot, and I didn't want her to get hurt falling out of bed. I never had a problem with her getting into things when I was asleep. All she ever did when she woke up was come crawl into bed with me. Think about it, kids would much rather sleep with their parents than alone. Maddie is 5 now, and still crawls into bed with me when she wakes up super early. If you are worried, put her bed (or just the mattress) in your room for a while.

I haven't got any little ones but if I did I'd also want them to have a bed like Dakoto's! WOW that's cool.

    Love and peace x

I know. The bed is so cute. My husband wants me to put it on ebay since Dakota won't sleep in it. But I don't want to let it go. I just keep hoping he will eventually sleep in it again.

My sons crib turns into a toddler bed but I havent taken the crib wall down yet. he's 2 and a half and I know he is ready to sleep without it but he isn't really trying to climb out of his crib. sometimes he tries and i tell him he will hurt his self and he stops. Everyone I know witha toddler whos got a regular bed will not go to sleep. Stays up and plays etc. I am in no rush to ruin his bedtime routine so he can do that. nope nope.
