YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bF7KK5kXhWc The story of the DEA's raid on Tommy Chong after his son's company sold a bong to a minor on the Internet. http://www.AmericanDrugWar.com
I read his book and in it he said he was giving up smoking weed to fight until it is legal and than would smoke again. But really i dont believe it. haha
yea the video doesn't really give the whole story... I'm still wondering what happened... they didn't really say... Were the DEA looking for something else or what? Hmm interesting..
No no. they werent looking for someone else. Operation pipe dream was an elaborate operation to put chong in jail by any means neccesary to make an example out of him as punishment for his past film history. The US government spent lots of tax dollars and it took years until they finally got the no knock warrant. He was technically put in jail because of shipping one water pipe over a certain states line. Also the government said they would put his wife and children in jail if he didnt make a deal, when he made the deal they put him in jail despite promising he wouldnt go there.
It wasent for crossing state lines, it was for sale to a minor. It deffently didnt help that it was to a senator's (or congresswomen, cant remeber) son.
O shit, I just read up on opperatino pipe dreams, and it turns out that one of the five DEA offices involved in the opperation is the Pittburgh DEA. And I was importing and selling pipes for a while. Shit, that was stupid.
do you have a source? I thought ive seen vids where he says the dea set up a fake smoke shop in a certain state and then shipping from this other state to that state was the prosecution grounds.
No, he wasn't charged for sale to a minor. In his autobiography he said it was for breaking state boundary laws.
there are 3 states.. i cant remember which 3.. which prohibit the sales of glass pipes and other pipes that may be used for illicit activities
