I went to a friedn's home the other day and she had vh1 or one of thoose music channels on and there was this video for some band. In the video a bird gets electricuited, and a volture starts eating it. I was intrigued but angry at the, "fake," animal violence it portrayed, so I watched more. Towards the end of the video, these sheep were in a crate and one-by-one they were being taken out of the crate so they could do what looked liek, died. I started crying, (being a vegan, animal rights activist, and all.) It was truly really sad and it bothers me that people show this stuff.
Oh yeah, "Float On" by Modest Mouse. Well, it's kinda supposed to be sad, the sheep were free in the beginnin, but at the end, they were gonna be killed. And it was a cartoon, haven't you seen the ol Looney Tunes?
Well, if it was a cartoon, then you must look past the visual it is giving you, knowing it is fake, and understand what they are trying to get at when they show people that. It is sad to see poor, innocent animals die, but what seems to disturb me most is when people dont think that animals have a mind and dont have a living concouse, or soul. I belive in re-encarnation, and what REALLY pisses me off (next to seeing animals driving by on the trucks with their noses pokeing out) is when I am made fun of for what I belive in. Blah... But sorry about you getting up-set!
Hey it's not a big deal, I just got emotional. I totally know what you mean about animals in trucks with their noses sticking out. The thing that really bothers me is factory farms. They are so cruel. Here's a film on it:THE MEATRIX . It's a cartoon, but it tells the truth. it's a good parody. I believe in reincarnation as well and when I see animals being harmed I feel like, "Doesn't that perosn know they could be killing their uncle?" Silly thought probably, but that's how I see it. And I know what you mean about not respecting your beliefs.
if it's the modest mouse vid, that's a cool song and a great video! it's alot more original than the gangsta rap "titties and ass bouncin in the camera, and crystaaahl, and rappers with gold teef throwin benjamins everywhere" kind of videos. this one has some meaning. i think it's trying to send a message against animal cruelty. but, that could be me.
you're probably absolutely right. I just get sensitive to how much I actually see on TV. I would perfer no videos at all, just music to fill my mind.
"Float on" is a great song, but the video can get a little bit too depressing. I do agree, though, that it's a lot better than ANY of that rap video shit of the moment.
I agree. I prefer to hear with my ears, not my eyes. As for the video I caught a glimpse of it as my sister sits for hours in front of the mtv-all-video-channel... it is the best I've seen shown on mtv. good song too. oh and this... made me laugh. But it's too true, sadly. ah well. ~~~peace~~~~
And then it implants how the song is supposed to be recieved as, and not any other way. I like using an imagination and just knowing that the song could be about any situation or thing.
me three! sometimes i get a little upset when i listen to a song i love a lot, then i find out from the video or wherever else that was intended in another direction, kinda ruins the song (i.e. vincent by don mclean everyone listen if you havent and no one say what its about!)
Exactly! There has been a lot of songs where I have thought they were supposed to be, (for examply,) happy, and end up being sad in the video. That's ehy I hate music TV channels. That's the problem the one guy said about rap stars, they aren't original, none of the songs have meaning.
And we'll all float on ok And we'll all float on ok And we'll all float on ok And we'll all float on any way well I think in the video the sheep are symbolic of the human race, blindly following into captivity or death.....the lyrics kind of refect that. I never thought that was a happy song, more social criticism than anything else...Modest Mouse doesn't really write pure happy songs.
Maybe it is,.....maybe it's just animals dying,...maybe it's way beyond anything. I guess we'll have to ask them.
