Watching the news today and as far as Canada goes, hooray we got a D in physical activity for youth ( aged 18 under ).

I laughed my ass off, the recommended physical activity is 90 minutes, what the hell?

Anyway the concluding statement was " There must be a change in lifestyle, otherwise these kids will have a much shorter life span than their parents "

    HAHA

90 Minutes?? This includes walking, lazy bastards.

U.S. is still worse btw, lol.

Either start taxing unnutritious food like cigarettes, or stop subsidizing their healthcare.

I agree and use the money to put PE teachers back in elem schools. it's ashame how long those kids have to sit down still for during the day.

They got a good reason to say that, being too fat is dangerous. Canada got a D for physical activity, they recommand 90 minutes. This seriously scare me.
Everyone do 90 minutes of physical activities even if they don't want to, just by walking, no ?

Only 3 states in USA has less than 20% of it's population obese, sounds funny to me.

You have the rights to choose what you eat and drink, and spending energy is totally free, do it! That problem could be resolved so easily. If you are trying to lose weight i'm happy for you :)

and add more time for recess so the kids can just run around

and phys ed has to be much more than just "gym" class

There are many, many factors that play a role here. But yeah the biggest factor is diet and lack of phys activity.

Dump on the fat kids. Physical Education has been dumped from most schools now blame the parents and kids.

Shit you can tax what you want. The US has taxed tobacco to the max, tobacco helped found the US, California tried a fat tax...sorry didn't work. Maybe you don't like looking at fat people, guess what they are part of life get used to it, not everyone looks or behaves like Paris Hilton. I'd like to tax skinny rich bitches.

Duh. It's stupid parenting to blame.
It's a lot easier to give into your kid wanting
McDonalds and candy than to guide them to
    eating more healthily.
Also, overprotective parents are to blame, too.
Children NEED to run around like children..
not be kept in a house.

It has less to do with parenting than it does with marketing. You have two parents both working full time to make utilities and housing, what do they have left to give the children?

How about stop blaming schools and government and make parents feed there kids right and maybe it's time to take away video games. When I was a kid all summer long all we did was play outside go to the city pool. Now kids sit inside on there butts all day long and play video games. Hell during the school year kids are in school all day long then go home and sit on there butts and play video games. Governments aren't to blames for everything.

Part of parenting is taking care of your kids. If you can't do that then you shouldn't have children. Both of my parents worked full time but they still made sure we where active and ate proper.

My town and a town nearby are removing their pools. Too expensive to bring up to code, one is putting in a water feature...whatever those are, The other one, shit they haven't committed. So the kids here in an area that has over three months of triple digit temps has no public pools for the kids. I am not sure the kids will get the benefit, but the contractors probably will. Schools have closed PE programs, kids are handed computers controls, whose fault is that?

    they can give a lot...

my dad worked 2 jobs, my mom worked full time...my dad still found time to coach me in soccer while growing up...both parents can go go to ALL my swim meets, ALL my basketball games, ALL my baseball games, ALL my track meets

i didn't grow up with any of the shit all the other kids did, because my parents made sacrifices...thats what parents these days aren't doing...spending money on video games, cable, new clothes, cars, crap food...

i blame parents, then the gov't for cuts in funding which limits time for recess and PE

Maybe it's hard.. most things in this corrupt system ARE
but I still believe that it's a parent's job to guide a kid
into the right direction in life.

You want the government to "help?"
    Pshh, like they help anything.
It sounds like you want to sacrifice our freedom because of bad parenting.

If you want to really analyze things you'll find out that when the government gets involved with anything, it makes it even worse.

I don't wish to sacrifice any of my rights to let the government rule. I wish parents had more control. You seem to wish that society met your goals of acceptability. Move to Belair if that's what you really wish, then watch out for drunk drivers.
