what is everyones opinion on traveling with a large amount of cash over international borders.

    eg $2000-$3000 in 20's and 100's?

Depends, If I had to use that much then yes i'd be forced. But if it was a trip of some sort then I'd bring maybe a grand tops.

it's alright to bring that much, just make sure it's in a safe place, and when you go out try not to carry more than $100.

I'd recommend Travelers checks--and stash the receipt somewhere safe so if they are lost or stolen, you can get them replaced.

over 10,000$ you have to declare going across borders

other then that your ok, unless they search you for whatever reason then they may get suspiscious

why even bother though? get a visa or bank card, carrying large amounts of cash around for more than an hour is just asking for trouble

Yeah use travelers checks or bring your atm card. It may have a cost but it is safer than carrying a large amount of cash w/ you.

$3000 is not a large amount of cash, don't even sweat it. For big amounts $10000+ break it up into rolls and distrubute them around your stuff, in pants pockets ect...
It also depends what border yr crossing and how yr crossing it.also what you look like.
p.s. people talking about travler's checks and visa cards are really fucking slow

well I assumed he'd be rolling down to mexico for a little trouble, but carrying a couple thousand USD is stupid in mexico, IMO. those crazy ass mexicans will do anything for 10 bucks, let alone 300,000 pennies

If yr scared to roll with a few Gs (in Mexico or anywhere else) than yr in the wrong biz. It's not even about being tough it's about knowing how to blend or not look like a target. Also knowing where you can be safely, and who yr dealing with. I speak from experience, not theroy.

well I'm not in the biz (is it really worth typing yr instead of you're or biz instead of business?), I guess I've seen a few of my buddies jacked over a couple hundred bucks in mexico (not all by criminals, cops in a couple of instancs) and i see no reason to carry a couple thousand dollars in mexico.

i guess I still don't understand why people shorten you're to yr, i guess technology is well beyond me. A lot of these frat boy trustifarians, love to carry large sums of cash, they don't necessarily flash it in public, more a dick measuring contest between their trust and their buddies'. I also know lots of people that dont have bank accounts because they fear the banking institutions. Not everyone carrying around rolls of cash is in the busniess.

I hear you, that's what I mean by not looking like a target. Any where in the world a 21 year old kid wearing flipflops scruffy shorts and a polo shirt mightas well paint vic on their forehead. The "yr" thing accually goes back to when I was a kid (before the Interweb belive it or not) and is just force of habit.

And other than our dress, my buddies try to blend in.

i wasn't trying to criticize the "yr", but all this shorthand online, email and txt messaging gives me a headache.

I'm right there with you on all the short hand and shit, it makes me nuts. The reality is that some situations requiore a certin type of person, and that's either you or not. One of the best forms of camo for me, bearing in mind that I'm 31, is as a noided out business guy. Dockers, medium expensive oxford shirt, off the rack sportcoat. Cats like that have chargecards and know their rights and won't be hasseled by cops and muggers.

i was simply wondering the legality of the whole situation.

Digital. I dont want to put it in the bank because i dont want to just deposit a large amount of cash that isnt legitimate, and i dont know how availible atm's will be where i will be staying.

this money is not to buy drugs or anything its just to sustain myself while im there

yoo Johnny - maybe you should consider checking out one of those belt things. (Ha, specific I know) I don't know the name of it, therefore I'm somewhat useless. However, I know there is a product that you basically strap around your body, kind of like a pistol holder, and it is underneath your clothes. It holds all your money, and its on you, but yeah, hidden. The other idea I liked was putting it in various pant pockets, etc etc
