Does anyone know where one might go (online or offline) to look into getting a job as a tree planter?
mmmmm that might be an independent project..... or check with your state/local park service. on another note i got an enviormentalist job today!
only thing i could think of would be getting a job with the state. i know here they have the CCC .. california conservation corps.. they plant trees and clean up wilderness areas.. i could be wrong though
I use to see adds for tree planters in the Duluth, Minnesota during the winter months. The adds were for planting trees in the southern states, pines at tree farms for paper or lumber interests. They always said must have self sufficient vehicle and ability to live on site, like a camper or van you can live out of, or tent I suppose. You might be at a site way out in the middle of no where, thats thousands of acres not near a town. If you never planted pines, you have a bag filled with sapplings and a metal pole with a chisel end you stick in the ground move back and forth, opening a space place a sappling in and give the hole a stomp to seal the sappling in walk a couple of steps and repeat process. I think it would be peice work like a nichol a tree say, 20 trees one buck, maybe not that much. They probably work from dawn till dusk too, I think the reason those adds were in the paper in the winter is that its a little cooler down there in the winter and you can't plant trees in the winter up north anyway. That could be a real tough job in 90 degree muggy heat in the summer. Theres probably a way to be able to bid a job from timber companies too, like for such an amount you'll plant so many acres. Then you hire a crew to do the job. In northern Minnesota, during late October and November into the first week of December, harvesting Balsam boughs for Xmas wreaths is a huge business, as is tying the wreaths. Try typing in tree farm labor or planting or tree farm harvesting. Xmas trees are grown on tree farms too and are planted like I discribed by crews, its a major business.
Could be a good way to learn Spanish too as I'm sure theres alot of migrants that would be doing tree planting. I'd get some serious boots too and keep in mind that type of job attracts all kinds of folks, especialy cause alot of those outfits probably pay cash no taxs no records. Take care and good luck.
Yeah, I'm reading that it's definitely hard work (lots of bending) but one can also make like, 200 bucks a day if you're really motivated. even half that would about double what I make right now, per day. And yeah, about 90% are migrant workers from Mexico and other latino countries. But every time I do a web search, I get lots of articles about it, some Canadian companies (which I hear don't like to hire foreigners)...Anyways, I can't find any American sites, because I don't know how to search for it.
Candian companies DO hire foreigners...you just have to be willing to get yourself over there and legal to work in the country. Treeplanting companies are generally very open to questions, so just call and ask if you are serious. In all my years of planting I've never heard of anything going on in the States...Australia and Wales, but never the U.S. Only other thing I can tell you is that if you can do it, you will make a fortune. But it isn't for everyone, and keep in mind you will make very little money for the first couple of weeks. It's after that time that you will start makin' the dough! Good luck
Howdy I just was looking at Tree-Planter.com, it seems to have all kinds of info even a question and answer for rookies part, ratings of companies, national and international were to apply info etc.
Thanks, everyone, for the help. I'm almost certain that I'm going to give this a try. Just wondering, working in Canada...are the taxes real bad? And what do you have to do to become a worker there? And no one knows anything about planting in the USA? I know we have tree farms...why can't I find anything online?
