do you mean trim the tips so they would get blunted/rounded?

I did once and immediately regretted it. I just cut off the really loose split ends caused from backcombing and regular brushing before dreading my hair. Now, 6 months after I cut the ends, I can tell zero difference before I cut to now. They aren't rounded, which I like, and look more natural because of it. Do not cut the ends.

    Nope,

if you want rounded tips i think the quickest way would be to crochet them very gently, as for cutting them...i wouldn't go that far...that said i wouldn't bother crocheting ether...i'm just going to let them grow.

yup, if you want your dreads to have blunted tips the easiest way would be to crochet them.
downside of this is that you might have to do this more than once.

If you want to whorten your drads i suggest first combing out as much length as you want to get rid of then use a razor blade and trim the tip. this way you it wont end up wit a sharp unnatural look

me either. Its funny, pre dreads, yano, got my hair trimmed every so often cause of split ends. Now that Im knotty, going on 9 months, no split ends to be seen. But I dont think that was the point of the question.

most of my tips had fallen by themselves, coz they are long dead i guess. So there u go, a natural trimming appears to happen

yes... i've trimmed little snippets off to keep them healthy looking. I've found that the healthier my hair is, the nicer it locks up.

I don't get this post. At first you regretted it, then you say it looks natural and made no difference, then you say don't do it? I don't understand.

nope. if you trim dreads they grow back naturally... you can't even tell. Have you ever even trimmed dreads before? :/

Just to add to my post, the lower half of one of mine was disgusting! Filled with wax, so I cut the lower half off!
The weeks after that it made more progress than in 6 months! Locked up tight and looked really natural :)

I say don't do it because it eventually won't make a different. I just looked as ratty on the ends as it did in the beginning then I cut the tips to make all the length even. Then later they grew and locked up unevenly and now you can't even tell I did it, thus making the entire process pointless except shorting my length by 1/2 inch which I regretted almost immediately.

i was just talking about if your tips are pretty much blunted but you have just a little hair hanging from it not alot. like tiny rat tails, not pretty wispy tips. i was just wondering if anyone trimmed those.

correct, if you cut them they will come back. They only way to make them blunt and stay is rubbing the ends like a pencil eraser against your palm, crochet, or use a need. Of these methods the only one I would use is the rubbing technique. Don't cut the ends, they will come back and you will regret it atleast I did. I rubbed the ends for a while thinking I wanted round tips and neat dreads. Now, almost a year in and I want the shit to be a messy as can be. I don't like neat dreads that much...nothing against people who have them, I just don't want them.
