ok so i adopted lily from the shelter in july and thought that she was a toy rat terrier mix. then last weekend i took lily to the humane society benefit and the "dog expert" there looked at her and said that she looks like a toy fox terrier (her tail is docked) and that perhaps she was a fox that didnt "fit the mold" (whatever that means). she said her legs were not AS long and her head was a little bulky but in any case......i wondering if she could be a fox/rat mix? ive researched on the net and since fox terriers and rat terriers are SO similar in look and in personality its hard to tell what kind of dog she is. of course it doesnt matter to me AT ALL what she is...i love her and i could care less about "pure breeds"....a dog is a dog.....BUT i am just ever so curious to know what kind of dog she is. heres my question...her tail is docked  .....now would anyone have bothered to dock her tail if she was a mix? do they only dock the tails of pure breeds? hmmmm.....i'lll try to post a pic of her later on and maybe you guys can help me out some.

Well they dock tails mainly to stop the dogs getting trapped in hole etc. As well as their dew claw which is near their paw but up a bit - they rip them off as well. They will dock any dogs tail especially if she was a pure breed - its sad but i have never seen a boxer dog with a full tail!!!

My dog had his tail docked which i hate but its done and theres nothing i can do now - the law should change to stop people doing this it's sick, for your dog they might have done ot because they wanted her to 'work' and she might get stuck or if she is long haired it can be matted with faeces etc. But they still do it for cosmetic reason's! I cant help you with her breed without pictures though lol, well done for adopting her xXx

And if you compare the to pic's you will see the same ear's they both have the same point's, the face shape the cheek bones are very high in both as well, they even look about the same size etc. Im 90 % sure she has jack russell in her though, maybe mixed. If you wanna find out find someone with a jack russell and have a look at the both together. Hope this helped you xXx

there actually is a JR in our neighborhood and ive compared them together. i didnt think she had any JR in her, atho that pic does look alot like her. that dogs cheek bones are much more defined then lilys. who's dog is that btw? anyway, i was looking online last night and found a pic of a toy fox terrier that looked exactly like lily. fox terr. & rat terr. look alot alike and the jacks kinda resemble them a bit as well.....they all have the same ears pretty much. i think her personality is more like a rat or fox than a JR. she is not AS hyper as jacks usually are. she seems to fit the character of a fox or rat terrier perfectly so im kind of between those two. i dunno, maybe i really never know. thanks for your help wiggy!

I have a mixed terrier too. And everyone has a different guess as to what she's a mix of. Whatever she is, I love her, she's the best dog ever. What do YOU guys think?? I'm guessing a mix of Manchester and Jack Russell.

I don't know, Elle--judging from the pictures you posted, I think she might be part Jack Russell terrier--I really can't say for sure! She sure is a cutie, though! I don't know what my dog's other half is either--Merlin's half Lab, and that's all I really know for sure! LOL I can't complain, though--he's a good boy! :) As for my preference in dogs, I'd rather have a mutt than a purebred--not that I have anything against purebreds, but I'm more experienced with mutts! LOL My first dog, Cinnamon, was half Sheltie and half Basset--she had the face and coloration of a Sheltie and the build of a Basset--Cinnie was such a good dog! Anyway, that's my guess as to what your dog might be--I hope it helps! :) Peace!

in the picture she does look alot like a JR.......I think Ill have to take a different picture of her b/c in person she doesnt resemble a JR. Everytime I take her to petsmart everyone comes over and asks if she is a rat terrier (which im pretty sure she is) and then i have heard alot of people say "i have a RT that looks just like her".

    thank you~

but i swear she isnt part JR! the picture doesnt do her justice in that she doesnt really look like that ...the pic disorts her look some. smooth fox and or rat is what im thinking and everyone who's seen her in person has said the same. infact ive even told a few ppl that in the begininng i was thinking perhaps she was a JR and everyone.....every single person said "no theres def no JR in her". you'd have to see her in person to really see it i guess

elle, this is a painting i did about ten years ago up in Prescott, Arizona. I have always loved this dream dog, and then one fine day a real one came into my life that looked just like her, but all balck, and we named her Raven. But this painting really reminds me of your baby Lily![IMG]
