    Great Pacific Garbage Patch

I enjoy the name they gave it....

it really isn't all that surprising... I'm actually surprised that it isn't bigger...

That's sad. I hate when even small bodies of water get polluted....I live along Lake Huron and our beach is completely disgusting. It is near to a large factory/plant, and the water collects everything. You can't even find a few feet to go wading - the water is thick with brown gunk. It doesn't even move, it just kind of wiggles a little like gelatin.

    What the hell......

it's going to take thousands and thousands of years to clean up what humans have done in just a century.

    We're obviously doomed.

The octopi will be much more resourceful than us.

My city just recently opened a free recycling center. It is a small step, but I'm so happy to finally be able to recycle my milk cartons and shampoo bottles! It's wonderful not to have to throw it away and wonder where it will end up, like in that part of the ocean.

it's no wonder that whales are starting to commit suicide by jumping out of the ocean. i remember when i was living in rural alaska years ago, and i discovered there was a widespread practice of dumping garbage in the water. everybody who lived near the ocean...fishermen, loggers, towns, villages, lodges...was dumping their garbage on the water. they would take it out to a place where the current would take it away from where they lived and dump it...all of it. there was no effort whatsoever to protect the ocean from pollution. i remember the first time i saw it done, i was pretty shocked.

That certainly seems to be the additute that created this mess. ME,ME,ME fuck the rest. Anytime the economy must always inflate in a finite world to take care of the present there will always be assholes like yourself. Do the world a favour and don't have children.
