Bush has a few regrets. I expected him to state more than just a couple. http://news.yahoo.com/s/bloomberg/20081112/pl_bloomberg/ahlrnlvfhsmc .
I think the big one that people WANT him to say is that he regrets invading Iraq. I don't believe he will ever do this. He has enough respect for the fallen soldiers and serving military to make such a foolish statement. (I think he does anyways.) No matter what a Commander in Chief believes, something to that extent should never be said publicly.
I hope you are right Wacky, and I hope nothing like the Iraqi war ever happens again. I know some applauded Saadam's hanging, but it was also one of the most poorly handled incidents of retribution ever. Not something any of us should be proud of, and the fact that Iraq is still unstable and drain on the US economy is the worst crime.
He mentioned the 'dead or alive' phrase. Telling people to go shopping after 9/11 and stonewalling the 9/11 investigation should be two more. That was a insult to all the victims of that tragedy. .
Charlie Gibson interviews George W and Laura. He came as close to saying he regrets the Iraq war as I think a responsible CIF should. He also made a statement that sounded like a subtle apology likely directed towards Colin Powell. Something to the effect of "I regret that some people put their reputation on the line over bad intelligence". Repeated that he plans on "writing" a book. I think that will explain a lot and clear the air for some people regarding how and why some decisions were made. Anyways, worth watching.
Check out this link for the humorous version of the things that Bush subtly referred to in that interview. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_aEURwsrUSQ .
The intelligence wasn't bad, the spin put on it by Cheney and his neo-conservative friends with their personal agendas was. As to a book, the man can't speak intelligently why would anyone waste time reading a book written by him. Besides he would only include information cleared by Cheney and friends so nothing new would ever be released.
There were two sets of intelligence. The truth and 'evidence' provided by interrogation 'techniques'.
Let's not forget Palin. Quotes of the year. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081215/ap_on_re_us/quotes_of_the_year Excerpt: "NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Sarah Palin lost the election, but she's a winner to a connoisseur of quotations. The Republican vice presidential candidate and her comedic doppelganger, Tina Fey, took the top two spots in this year's list of most memorable quotes compiled by Fred R. Shapiro. First place was "I can see Russia from my house!" spoken in satire of Palin's foreign policy credentials by Fey on "Saturday Night Live." Palin actual quote was: "They're our next-door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska." Palin also made the third annual list for her inability to name newspapers she reads. When questioned by CBS anchor Katie Couric, Palin said she reads "all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years."" .
