I'd very much like to help organize a general "fuck the system" protest in Philly. I would really love to see all the angry black folks, union dudes with baseball bats, and drunken Irish bastards from my neighborhood get together and fuck some shit up.

Widespread protests in America would set a great example to other nations. That's not in any way to diss the Egyptian and Tunisian (and other) movements. Just saying, America is sort of a big deal on this planet. I'd love to see our citizens unplug their Ipods and turn off Jersey Shore for a few minutes so they could get out on the street.

the trouble with anarchy is that it always eventually descends back into government..

Aye. I wonder who their next corrupt leader will be? I expect he will cunningly disguise himself under the banner of democracy like they do in the west.

I'm not sure where the equation of revolution = anarchy as an absolute truth has come from... a revolution doesn't have to be anarchistic.

And if even if had always gone the way you suggest in the past, that doesn't mean that it has to follow the pattern every time.

Revolution in Britain, too, in small but significant ways...an example:

You are right. you can have a revolution via the ballot box. Look what happened in 1997 in the UK.

At the end of the day though nothing changes. We are still left fighting for our basic human rights.

How about a campaign called hands off our weed!

Protests in Algeria and Yemen were broken up today by police and pro government thugs.

There are protests lined up for sometime in the spring in the UK against the new coalition government. Even my mum says she might go along. I predict a riot.

No, a change, no matter how big, via ballot box, is called "democracy". As long as the system remains in place, there is no revolution. You should look up the definition (there are two primary types of revolutions).

I think Blair's "achievement" [if that's the right word...] was to cause a revolution in at least some peoples heads - the realization that we've got to the point where there's very little discernable difference between the major political parties.

Unfortunately, the alternatives who've been most adept at exploiting this tend to be right wing.

Do you claim benefits or are you likely to need to in the near future ? The government's Welfare Reform Bill, currently going through parliament, proposes mandatory drug tests for benefit claiments [among other things].

That ought definitely be something to protest about.

I know the difference between the two dictionary definitions. I was being cynical.

Once the street party ends and egypt has it's new government, do you think things will change much for the better?

At the end of the day what is the difference between a revolution and a land slide election victory? Both are welcomed by the people with long awaited jubilation, and both usually end up in disappointment.

They'll never manage to push that one through, and if they did it would be very difficult to work round the fact that most people who are life long benefits claimants are on drugs.

    Don't hold your breath.
