heyo guys. i'm in israel right now, and absinthe is in most liquor stores, wormwood and all. i just bought 2 bottles, because i hear it is legal to take under 3 liters on the plane, which i'm boarding TOMORROW MORNING!!. when this runs out, my cousin and i were discussing maybe he would be able to send me some via mail. is it remotely legal to send it thru the mail services to america? florida specifically. also, can anyone verify the 3 liters shpeal? thanks so much all. this forum's amazing.

I know that you're allowed to take three liters of alcohol on the plane, it's probably the same for absinthe but I'm not sure. I tried absinthe once and it was awesome. Good Luck man and have fun

Absinthe is not illegal to posess in Amerikkka, only to sell. You can import it through the mail without problem. I know people who have done this several times. Not too expensive, either. Several reputable retailers in Europe will be happy to ship many different brands. You would probably get the same effects however, drinking any other comparable proof hard liquor. I am not convinced that the wormwood adds any psychotropic effects to the beverage. All it is is the high EtOH content. I have tried it many times and noted only drunkenness, no other reputed efects. And this was high thujone content stuff from Germany, Czech, and Spain. It tastes good, though, and it's fun to prepare, with the burning sugar and the implements, etc. I wouldn't suggest trying to bring in three L, I think you're only allowed two before you have to pay duty or declare. Plus, some a-hole at customs may f*ck with you even though it's not illegal to possess. And I wouldn't try making my own either. Some friends and I did try an experiment-all we made was some horrendous-tasting s*it that we ended up dumping out.

The LCBO here in Hamilton has a full stock of Absinthe. I heard it makes you hallucinate... Is that true? If so, I'm definitly picking up a bottle!

Wrong; if the USPS happens to profile the package, it'll be destroyed, and you'll get a phone call and certified letter from those nice 'ole Postal Inspectors. Apparently it's illegal to import any kind of alcohol, except for wine, which can be imported by licensed re-distributors.

However, the cool guys over at http://www.absinthe.bz offered me a %100 money-back guarantee (including the $25 flat fee for shipping) that my absinthe would make it through Customs...it did. ;) Only problem is that they don't offer La' Fee, but their 140-proof, 100 mg/kg thujone-containing (10x allowed by the EU) King of Spirits Gold should do the trick. ;)

Reply is a bit late. but the damage to the nerve system is due to the alcohol DUHHHH.
thujone is (was?) believed to be carcinogenic, that's why there's a limit of thujone conc. etc.
