You know, it occurs to me that if you don't want your civilians killed, you don't make a flippin' illegal Road For Terriorists that you KNOW will put them in harms way.

If the helicopters were following some terrorists, and THEY got to cross the border, no questions asked, then WE get to, also. If those really were civilians, i feel horrible for them and their families, but i can't imagine 4 helo's just randomly flying across into restricted air just to slaughter some workers in a building that isn't even finished yet.

    i guess we'll see.

Yeah, Syria seems to think that the troops invaded. I dunno, we'll see how this pans out.

It was 5 miles.. Operationally a visual distance.
there is no coordination with Syrian commanders, If there was communication between Syrian military and U.S. commanders along the border -- it would would help deal with problems such as U.S. Helos entering Syrian airspace..
Sanctions placed on Syria keep them from having communication equipment. Insurgents take advantage of loose communication and use the border to escape capture.

What represents a credible force to deal with the main threat?
    Blackhawk Helicopter for example.
In air assault operations it can move a squad of 11 combat troops with equipment or reposition the 105 mm M102 howitz with thirty rounds of 105 mm ammunition, and a four-man crew in a single lift.
    Let’s talk capacity
The helicopter has a maximum takeoff weight of 2600 pounds.

    So 2600 minus 1954 equals 1246 pounds.
We need fuel; the helicopter carries 92 gallons at 6.7 pounds per gallon equalling 616 pounds.
    1246 minus 616 equals 630 pounds.
We need a pilots:) lets say he exercises regularly and keeps his weight down and weighs 170 pounds.
    630 minus 170 equals 460 pounds.
We can therefore carry 460 pounds of what we refer to in aviation as payload.
So lets see; the average soldier/ policeman weighs about 170 pounds too and carries in light configuration, about 15 pounds of gear to 40 pounds of gear.
We can therefore carry 420 divided 185 equals 4.5 men. Since we cannot yet dissect a man and still make him work we will have 90 pounds left over.
But let’s be honest and stop kidding ourselves, no one is going to weigh that little so we will have maybe 30 to 45 pounds left back to carry bags, ammunition, etc.
However it’s not that simple; Aircraft maximum takeoff weights are governed by the current temperature, and Syria is a hot country.
So the hotter it is, the lower horsepower the engine will produce, so the pilot has to consult his performance charts to decrease his maximum takeoff weight accordingly. HARDLY A INVASION..

(please dont check the number I was fooling) ?but some reality to it.. Just not accurate, im not good at math..

i, for one, DON'T NEED SOURCES! You obviously spent a LOT of time compiling this report, and i choose to believe that you actually looked up every single detail in order to make it correct.

    And even if you didn't?

Hey, i'm down with your take.

Is it not irrelevant how many? What f&*^ing right does the US have to jut 'walk' in there and do what they want?

Too much arrogance - this is why people do not like the US. Watch them figure out some way to get back at Americans.

Why, the exact same right the illegal aliens/terrorists have to just cross borders at will. You don't like that? Tough spit. If it's okay for the 'bad guys' to do it? It's okay for the good guys. (Well, and any neutral guys ~ but they aren't exactly there, are they?)

If you find that wanting a level playing field is just ~ what did you say? ~ arrogant? ~ then, i guess you like cheating, and cheaters, if they'll act humble, to your estimation.

    Oops.

Back to the drawing board for you...

Christian hmmmm. Oh yes thats right Jesus said Blessed are the arrogant warmongers for they are allways right and will be called my children. Oh yes lets not forget. Attack thou anyone whenever thou feel like it... and Lower then thyself to the level of thine enemy. Anything that thou doest in my name and that thou claimset to be right is right for thee to do. oops My mistake Jesus said 'Blessed are the peacemakers for they will be called the children of God." btw: Arrogance is NOT listed as one of the fruits of the spirit.

Yes I am a Christian but I believe in being a peacemaker.

Antagonize thou them that allready don't like you as doing so will causeth them to hate thee even more.

Maximum Airspeed is around 200 mph.. Can be modified to get top speed, Low crew, moderate weaponary, low fuel,
Could gain a extra 50mph.. There are other attack helicopters.
I didnt read the report of the type flown on this mission.
Chances are it was a mixture of Attack helos and troop mover.. Blackhawks. A Apache can maintain a speed of 280mph.. (only has a crew of 2 men)
Who knows what they could be flying.
They probable were chasing some arabs that was selling some Crack in Iraq.. And cant be stepping on that Poppy trade there...
Ok. now Im really making stuff up. [IMG]

It's interesting how we feel that it's okay to bomb other countries to get the terrorists even if it kills civilians. I wonder how we'd feel if someone started bombing the US to get some terrorists hiding on our soil.

It seems that we could only do this if we felt that Syria had a specific government policy that harbored and helped these terrorists. If that's the case, shouldn't we take it up with the Syrian government before bombing in a way that will kill their citizens.

    Not everyone feels it's okay.

Civilians are being used as shields, and not all are so innocent.

That's why we have a strict policy of NOT harboring terrorist.

Syria is a candidate for the "Axis of Evil" list.

The US State Department accuses Syria of supporting terrorism and harbouring Palestinian groups it classes as terrorists.
The US has also accused Syria of playing an unhelpful role during and after the war in Iraq, allowing large numbers of armed volunteers to cross its borders to fight against the US-led coalition in Iraq.
