Does smudging really work? Has anyone ever tried this? My house is full of negative energy and I'd like to get rid of it and I've heard of smudging, but I have my doubts. I mean, to be honest, it sounds ridiculous. Can anyone vouch for it's effectiveness?
I think it's a nice focus for intention and prayer or blessing... and you're drawing upon a long tradition of smudging with sage to boot. I've done it a few times before when i move into a new house and i also carry a candle whilst i smudge ... ask for blessing and suchlike ...whatever you feel is right. But to be honest, i hate the smell ..i mean, burnt sage!? so next time i'm just gonna use some nice nag champa incense. ...but like i said i feel it's more about the intention and ritual.
sage is cleansing while nag champa smells good it's not good for you to inhale and yes, broadcast your intentions
Yeah i like frankincense but can't remember what myrh smells like ... i do remember liking it though, - love those resiny nuggets. ... so does copal smell nice? It's another resin yes?
My mother smudges sage. She's not a new age type but I think she's superstitious. I don't like the way it smells, but I can't tell you whether or not it works. I don't know if she has any intentions when she's burning it or not so maybe that's the thing.
Well, i'm moving house at the weekend. I'd better hit my local hippy store and try the copal. Totally!
Yes, sage works for the moment, cleansing present negativity - used along with proper intentions (prayers is the word I prefer.) Placing a bay leaf in each corner of every room will help prevent future unwelcome energy or entity.
Someone told me just last week actually that bay trees are best situated by the door to your house for protection. ... went to find some copal resin today, they didn't have any so i bought a little smudge stick ... cedar and sage.
The spirits actually use doors, they go through them but it's amazing. Like a habit. They also like to crawl through windows.
Do you think it is a habit - or merely the particular pathway they must take, perhaps along grid and ley lines, or the way they must take to reach certain people or places. There are certain rules everything adheres to, right?
oooo interesting. I had forgotten this concept...It makes so much sense, now. As those are the only two ways I have entered this room- or anyone. This is very true. Thanks
I dreamed the other night I was in the body of an astronaut. (It seemed like an oppollo ((SP)) mission because I felt more afraid than I have ever been in my entire life. It was intense) Now it makes me wonder if they were just making pathways for projections. I wonder if they were aware of this? They must...? I wonder what kind of mind science they do up there... any astral projecting? any dmt?
From an Canadian Aboriginal perspective sage is seen as a all purpose and highly feminine medicine to use for smudging. Sage represents the South Direction on the Medicine Wheel. The sage plant is sacred to the woman. When the sage burns it is a means of cleansing the mind and the body to receive the spirit. When we bought our new house my friend sent me a book on clearing the space by using intention and a smudge or some type of ritual. I pictured in my mind what the purpose was of each individual room, what I wanted it to feel like when I spent time there (ie. relaxed or energizing) I feel that it was totally worthwhile, and I really think that those rooms reflect the intention that I put into them! As far as sage for cleansing, I use it to clear the air in the house, rid it of negative energy or to smudge myself. I think as long as you have a purpose in mind, you have the power to generate that intention.
