Hey all, I'd like some opinions.
Would you be interested in a couple of sub forums, not as many as music, but one for
starting out/ new veggies/ dealing with family
Ethics/ non food products (think the leather debate, or simply gelatain in photo film)
    General

what would you like and why?

Please vote, and you can have multiple answers.

i voted for "yes we will find info faster" and "yes with only 2 or 3 subforums". i was thinking about subforums like: vegetarian and vegan recipies, what u allready called "non food products", and i like the new veggies and ethics also.
i dont know if dealing with the family is really necessary??

well, that would be holidays, telling the fam (lots of people living with parents as well as new veggies who are in room mate and relationship situations. I'm the veggie in a 3-person household, for example. Sqwakers7 is in a mixed relationship. and WAAAAAAAY outnumbered! So we have to make something work!
    BTW, this is ONE topic:
"starting out/ new veggies/ dealing with family" like country/bluegrass/old time in music.

    thanks for the opinions

although it seem like this veg forum is slow enough as it is, and easy enough to find what you want, id think itd be cool to have 2 subforums, one for recipes, and general veg chat, and the other for noobs and ethical discussions. ya know, like 1 for the already converted, and the other for the yet to be, hehe!

i mostly agree with mugglor's oppinion. draw veg'n recipes here from munchies forum, second general chat, third ethics and reasons.

I think the ethics subforum would be really good, it'd be great to see others views on different matters, bring on the debate!
Also, a subforum for reference could be handy... people could post articles on gelataine products, e-numbers, honey etc, I know that when I first started out I could've done with some help on what's veg*n and what's not instead of having to research every food type in the shop!

I do have a link to munchies. I don't want to use too much server space, here, so I'd like to keep that a link. Plus, if we all post over there, somone who is omni might see a tempting title. ;P
I was thinking along the same lines as Mugglor.
    I was seeing:
    a general forum (which is under the sub forums list-see music or psychedelics) for those odd questions, and maybe the debate side;
a Veg 101- here we begin for the newbies which would be the new veggie needs support for dealing with parents/spouse/ roomies/ dining out, hidden animal ingredients and such;(how many "I just went veg and I accidentally ate whatever/ my parents are laughing at me/ I wanna keep my leather jacket" posts have you seen? or made? They get a couple answers, or stay hot a while then vanish to page 18 or something, leading to the next poster with that problem having to re-ask, and not get ideas as quickly. I think we can benefit these fragile-point veggies much better this way,IMHO)
Vegan: beyond diet into lifestyle- this is where the leather and pets/ AR issues arise, spreading the word by example or?? and related issues.

I'd be moving topics around a bit, and only leaving redirects for a short while- I think they clutter a forum up if left a long time. (That's why I comepletely delete trolling by banned posters).
I might have a moved threads sticky each few days, not sure.
Keep the opines and ideas coming. we are samrt and creative. let's prove it. For the betterment of the forums.

    Personally, I don't favour a change, and here's why:

If we *do* set up separate veggie forums, and have, say, a vegan/ethical vegetarianism board, instead of it being mostly posts about veganism and ethical vegetarianism, it's going to be the target of tons of omnivores who are just looking for fun. There won't be ANY good discussion on that board, methinks.

Then again, this is just my opinion and not a fact. Do as ye like. =)

Is there really the post count here to justify it? If you do divide it though, it might be nice to have a 'veggies/vegans' only forum where we can come for mutual support and advice without being bothered by meat eaters pursuing their own agenda. Meat eaters with a genuine interest or who want to debate could then go to one of the other forums.

im saying no because it didnt seem to help some other forums... like music.

however, i think if the subforums stayed minimal and general then it might actually help.

    I'd say no.
If you want to really get into discussing vegetarianism, just go to veggieboards.com, its a great site.

ill just say, it seems like there is alot more than meets the eye, in veg*nism. and since this is such a major life decision for people, why limit it to 1 forum, and tell them if they care that much to go elsewhere? like to veggieboards? with that logic, lets tell all the music hippies to go to the dead forums instead, the string and phish forums instead, the jamband, metal, or classic rock forums, tell all the book forum posters to go to a special book forum site. tell all the relaitonship and sex posters to go to a real site dedicated to that specific purpose... and hell, lets tell all the hipforums poetry and actors to go to their "real" sites tell the liberals, nerd, environmenalists, astrologers, druggies, spirituals, gays, animal lovers, to all find their own special forums elsewhere to find better subforums... to me it seems like the veggie forums here is the only one with the least sub forums support... like books and tv and beer and BS and more BS are more important as to deserve more forums than actual important topics???

with that attitude we'll shut down all our forums, subject by subject. if someone with dillemmas want to talk veg*nism, i think s/he is welcome here to do so

editing - after rereading my post i think it sounds maybe too harsh. it's because i think in one language and write in another, so sometimes my writing don't reflect exactly tone of my thinking. i hope you catch my point in above text and nhf :)

and one more thing, if you really think so, ill give you all a better forums to go to for EVERY topic on this site that specializes in all the sub topics here... now you CAN do that, but its just rediculous to do so, bcause this is the HIPFORUMS, not only the veggiforums where we need to go to other sites... or the nudeforums where they all need to go to other sites, or you know.... but i know what you mean too, and i see how your trying to help and thats cool, cuz i know this site is so big and cannot possibly cater to all specific topics. now i do think the veggie forums here do deserve a few subtopics since it is extremely underespresented at the time, but its cool ramona you gave us that link tho anyway, and thats a very cool forum too! so thanks!
