so im considering getting a new video game console of some sort. the last new console i got was a nintendo64 back in middle school. i still like it and play it often, but they've long since stopped making new games for it and most stores dont carry them anymore, except some places that sell used games. so i'm torn as to what to purchase, though. on the one hand i really want either a Wii or a PS3, to have one of the newest and "best" systems out, which will likely see a steady release of new games for some time. but then i'd be paying over 200 bucks MINIMUM for the console and setup, and whatever game might come with the package. whereas i could get a used but excellent condition PS2 for 100 or less, with controllers, and buy a couple games and not break 200 bucks for it all. i've played a few PS2 games and really enjoyed them (okami was really neat) i know they're still releasing new PS2 games, but i dont know how long this will keep up with the PS3 out... but its so much more economical, i know i would enjoy the system, and given how many years of use i've gotten from my n64 i'd probably be content witht a ps2 for a good long time. i dont know...what do you recommend? i have found some surprising prices online for Wii or PS3, but its still really expensive regardless.
I say save up and go for the PS3. For example, someone said that the transition from GTA San Andreas to GTA IV is as big as the transition from GTA II to GTA III. So..
It's been about 2 years since I've been able to get into video games. My roommate has all three of the next gen systems, and I tried to play and just couldn't get into it. Can't help you much. I'd probably get something that I could play that new grand theft auto on if I were you,
see now heres the thing, and don't gang up on me: i've never played any grand theft auto game at all, ever. i dont know what it's all about. so the big changes in it might mean relatively little to me. people fucking LOVED the previous ones, so those should be fun enough for me.... the thing is i like video games, but i'm not a hardcore gamer at all and i do have other priorities for my money (food, gasoline, rent, alcohol and pot) i'm just thinking that there are a TON of games out for PS2 that if i got that system i'd be just fine. but then again the newer systems, i'm sure, have some big improvements. but i just can't see paying around 300 dollars BEFORE i even get any games of my own choice....
id say depends on what you want, have a scout around at games etc, the wii is alot different with controllers, so it might be an idea to check out someone who already has one and see if you like it.although I cant see the difference between the PS3 and PS2 but ive never had one. If it really matters to say I have a next gen games console then take one of them. EDIT: If you've never tried any, just go round to a mates or ask in the shop if you can try it out before you buy - i know theres a store that does that round here but i dunno if there is near you.
Yeah but XBox 360 doesn't have a hard drive, PS3 has a built-in Blu-Ray player while the XBox add-on for HD costs $200, the PS3 controller is way better (although this is just a personal opinion), PS3 has sharper textures..
i dont have HD or anything like that, just a standard tube television. granted it is newer and is already a digital tv and as such won't be rendered useless when it all goes digital, just obsolete in terms of picture quality. i dont care about that fancy stuff so much as i just want to play some fun games i think i'll just go with a PS2 probably.
Just because you don't like it means it's ridiculous...Pfft, Mario Galaxy owns... I like Wii because I loved old school nintendo and super nintendo... Plus I like playing the bowling and tennis, it's fun having it more interactive...
Wii is tempting because of mario galaxy and especially super smash brothers.... also okami is apparently out on Wii. just looking for the game online i've found its released for PS2 and Wii, but it seems harder to find on PS2. also i do kind of like the idea of more interactive gaming....but i dont know. its so expensive!
Yeah but the consoles last a long time, you know. I think I had my PS2 for 5 years and was able to sell it recently because it was in perfect condition.
I like the Wii because you hook up to your wireless internet and you can get Wii points which then you can use to play old nintendo, super nintendo, 64, and two other old systems, and play their games.
