voters have faith in the system, while non-voters don't. and that's about as simple as it can be boiled down to. well, some voters have faith in the system, but not any of the people running the system; either way, it's all basically the same shit. most voters i know believe that they're voting for slavery, but they also believe there's a point to it. they believe that one slave master can be worse than another, and that if you don't vote for slavery, you don't have the right to complain about it. :p

Well at least if you do vote you can put the politicians you hate the most at the bottom of your list of preferences.

whoopdedoo. :p i don't really like any of them. but then again, i'm one of those people that doesn't like the system; which means that anyone that controls the main parts of the system i can't really be a fan of.

I was for Howard, because i did not trust labor or the others. Now my confidence has fallen for the libs especially with this wrorkplace reform they are trying to introduce. I haven't voted in years. It's great to have a choice but i feel it's worse to vote for the sake of it rather than not voting at all. I'm not going to just pick someone for the appeasment of others.

i always vote. even if you have no faith in the system, by voting you take away funds allocated to political parties that you disagree with. voting is a duty that protects you from people who will make your life miserable. the conservatives when in power in the united kingdom effectively outlawed the poor by removing their right to vote unless they paid a tax that took away a more than significant proportion of their wages. the first time i voted was in australia and i have taken the oppurtunity to do so in every election. if you do not vote against people who will make your life misery then you have no-one to blame except yourself. if you don't use it you lose it!

So if i vote next time, i can blame any misery in my life on the pollies? Please. Most ding-a-lings that go by the name of a "politician" don't deserve any attention. I'm not going to vote for someone i don't believe in and respect. Our right to vote won't be taken away. Plus, even if we do bloody vote, there is still the chance of the moron winning and making things miserable for us anyway. Look at America. They voted a fool in and now they have to live with it. I am at peace with doing things my way as you are yours.

so even though you may think the poliies are ding a lings you still won't vote even if it means you can take away money from these ding a lings? i suggest you have a think on this stuff. go and have a look at thatcherite britain and its history you will find it illuminating and disturbing, it will demonstrate that voting rights were effectively taken away from people. if you do vote, vote the least fool of them all.

it appears his principles go higher than just taking a bit of money away from politicians he doesn't like.

great and thanks very much....bush is a result of a non compulsory voting system.....and see where that got them, only the conservative and the old vote...Howard is the result of forgetfulness and ignorance of life without some basic rights in place....
please don't desert us and leave us in the hands of the conservative few who bother to vote...
    :(

Right. So i should vote because you say so? For the sake of it? Yep, that sounds worth it and not wasting my time at all. I'd rather say neutral.

I may as well just close my eyes and pick one if it means that little. Strange though, you almost made it sound as if it was important?

so essentially tricksters saying she won't vote because it doesn't matter if people she doesn't like gets money due to her not voting, because, at the age of 25 she's had alot of time to think about this stuff.

you act like voting can save the world! what you fail to realise is that bush lost both elections; howard won the last election with a higher majority; and the whole voting system is a crock of shit.
