I didn't think he was running, your choices are going to be Obama/Clinton and McCain and who ever the fuck is dumb enough to sign on to that sinking ship.

Its not much of a democracy if you ask me. The common vote is meaningless, and only gives the people the feeling of importance.

If you don't vote for the lesser of 2 evils, you may get the greater. It makes a difference, you know.

Yeah, he ain't running. He did write that book though.

I was on the same boat as you, but if I was American I would vote Obama just because... well, I really don't want to see McCain on Clinton's cabinet in office.

But yes, they're all the same in the long run. Pressed_Rat will make sure to tell you that.

Sure, but little things do matter. Per example, I'm better off voting for a Democrat as a liberal minded college student who wants his tuition lowered and his recreational drugs legalized.

No it doesn't. 1 vote makes fuck all difference, sorry but statistically that is true 99.9% of the time.

Show me a succesful election in the past ten years and I'll show you ten fucked up examples of how much of a crock of shit democracy is.

    Voting ISN'T democracy, it's BULLSHIT.

    Wake up everybody.

Everytime there is an election it comes down to two forerunners, and usually one smaller one who hasn't really got a chance. It is normally always a close call, and from watching the news over the past few years we seem to be averaging around 2-3 elections per year somewhere in the world where they fucked it all and there is a massive hoo ha and lawyers all gettting involved as to who won, or sometimes a bit of a civil disturbance.

It's like having a game of football without a referee. Too many cooks spoil the broth. Society is too complex for it to be homogenised on such a large scale, it can only be controlled through dictatorial autocracy, and ballot box democracy is nothing more than a form of mass delusion, and a very dangerous one at that.

i vote as often as i can. as for not voting for the lesser of two evils, that's what third party and write ins are for. they might stand a snow flakes chance, but they ARE a way of telling posterity you actually do care.

and if you don't care, then you ain't got shit to bitch about, no matter how screwed up everything gets if no one does.

i don't know how accurately the votes are counted, or if the corporatocracy manages to get secretly disenfranchised every voter they don't like, but i do know i can damd well read and study the issues that i'm interested in, and when they appear on the ballot, those are the most important thing to me for voting on.

as for the superpower popularity contests, well we really don't know anything about those people anyway, no matter how much they waste to try and convince us that we do. but knowing we don't know them, how can we know that we are voting for the lesser or anything else of two or anyother number of anything?

i just look at who'se most likely not to stay bought by intrests other then mine.

it is true that representation is largely mythical, but its also true, that the more homework you do for them, and save them by doing so, the more effect that has on the decisions they make. that's what lobbiests get paid for of course.

but anyone who has the intrest and the time can do that on some issues, by focusing on one or a few to do so, and then finding congressional voices that will listen.

there's no guarantees, other then if you don't, well then you've only yourself to blame for not having. in a way i don't mind other people not voting, because in a way, their non-votes are like proxies strengthing the votes of everyone who does.

the power of corporate economic intrests is a problem, but it is we who consume their products who give them that power too. the all powerful vote at the cash register that is always counted.

and as always, if everyone who didn't vote, voted third party instead, at least it would be interesting, and we might even get someone sane with half a brain that way.

so many things that can't happen have, who'se to say one more can't?

    =^^=

That's what everyone who votes say. Balls to that. You don't have a right to complain if you DO vote. Voting only perpetuates the bullshit, can't you see that?

I think, in the American case, continued voting for the lesser of two evils has become the GREATEST evil. An outsider opinion.

This has become a mockery of democracy.

Voting for the lesser of two evils is kind of a moronic frame of thought, no offense.

If you don't agree with someone, and only vote for them because they are not as evil as the other person, how is that at all logical? They are still evil, as you say, the lesser of two evils.

McLeodGanja's first post is most logical to this point.

This whole thing is a huge sham.

I know, the things people will believe. Get a catchy slogan and they can be made to believe anything. "vote for the lesser of two evils"...[IMG]

Such a cop out. call the system out for what it is. Why support someone that you say is evil?

I mean, if people feel an incredible urge to go to the ballots, if they are really powerfully compelled, go in protest! Or do what the Italians (and likely others) have done in the past. I believe it was called "white ballots (edit: or perhaps simply blank ballots)." Submit a blank form or write in "none of the above" in large letters or put a large X on the ballet or color the ballot all black. If you really have the uncontrollable need to vote "for the lesser of two evils" for the simple sake of voting, do something more constructive like the aforementioned ideas. Or think of other creative ideas to protest this sham.
