Lawrence, KS offers another excellent fest coming early June. Cant wait to see the likes of Cake, Leftover Salmon, Flaming Lips, DAvind Grisman, Galactic, Buckethead, Ozric Tentacles, Chicago Afrobeat Project, Lotus, Tea Leaf Green, The Avett Brothers, and thats just the start of it! Im hearing rumors of Mickey Hart's Global Drum Project, along with Steve Kimock, EOTO, sts9, Keller Williams, and a few others as well. Should be a glorious time. Last year was one of the best festivals ive been to. Music just doesnt even compare to some other fests, Wak gets to rage till dawn baby and TWO late night Ozric Tentacles sets!!!!
Wakarusa is a wonderful festival in the midwest that brings together famous and not-so-famous musical acts in a cool setting. To answer the above question, it is general admission tent by car camping or upgraded to campsites within the state park. I highly recommend people go and experiance a good time! http://www.wakarusa.com
tix right now are 140 with all the taxes and charges. Pretty standard price i think. But a little more expensive than last yera. should be about the same as all good, langerado, high sierra maybe, etc. But it will be well worth it. Zappa Plays Zappa might also be coming along i hear as well. We will have to see. I can assure you there will be good bluegrass there like2burn. Even if Yonder doesnt show, which they very well might.
couple awesome new additions to the lineup were announced officialy on the waka website today. Mickey Hart Band with Steve Kimock Blue Turtle Seduction Michael Kang (SCI) and Chris Berry in Panjea Zappa Plays Zappa Delta Nove Truckstop Honeymoon George Porter Jr Ivan Nevilles Dumpstaphunk Porter, Batiste and Stoltz (NOLA funk) EOTO (Michael Travis and Jason Hann of SCI....sick)!!!! The Everyone Orchestra (you know Kimock is in.)!!!!! Maybe Hann from EOTO will do the drum kit like last year and maybe add in Jamie Janover on dulcimer and weve got Kimeotover baby! A man can dream THe everyone orchestra gets two late night sets, and they both are going to be EPIC
Another contender folks. Here's the line up: Leftover Salmon Mickey Hart Band Zappa Plays Zappa Keller Williams David Grisman Quintet PBS Ozric Tentacles The Everyone Orchestra Lotus Galactic Ivan Neville's Dumpstafunk Tea Leaf Green Brett Dennen The Avett Brothers Arrested Development http://www.wakarusa.com/
dude buckethead and grisman are worth more than 140... thats early bird too.. cant wait. im a get dosed.. anyone from dayton ohio riding to lawrance for wakawaka? msg back -kev
im glad to see that so far, most people seem to be having a positive vibe about wakarusa 2008. That is essential at any fest! I have nothing but good things to say about all 4 of my wakarusa experiences (even that dreaded 2006 year lol). I will be at both Bucket and Grisman, Salmon.....never seen Grisman before, Bucket is always impressive. **all i can say is DO NOT miss The Everyone Orchestra. If theres one band (which is hard for me lol) NOT to miss, its this one. Ozric Tentacles too....youll love them if you like Bucket.
awesome i so will check the orchestra out. i cant wait for bucket, and dude you HAVE to see grisman.. at least before dude dies... lets be realistic..
I had a GREAT time last year and a fairly good time in 06 too. I am definitely going back this year...I don't mind it being a little smaller...Lawrence is a great town, the lake is lovely, the music is amazing and the folks are all fabulous!
Last year was defintiely a lot more "chill" vibe than years past. Less screaming, stumbling people and less noise than previous waka's i have been to. Ofcourse it depends a lot on the area of camp you are in as well. We were in kind of a secluded place last year where there was only one area of campers compared to like 4 or 5. Which was kinda cool, and also had some parts i missed of being in the larger camping area (like all of the funny stuff you see and hear lol). But far less security in the area i was at too. It was kind of a quiet bunch of campers really......usually people at wakarusa are all over the place. I wonder what it will be like this year though, im thinking it will go back to normal like 04-06 since last year was kind of a down year from all the bad security reviews it got from 06' Lots of good bluegrass bands were just added on March 7th. check www.wakarusa.com for the latest artist additions
There were some GREAT acts added...I am a huge Big SMith fan, and Dirtfoot knows how to warm up the crowd hardcore and with Dirtfoot will come the Chompdown...mmmmbacon...
Just two more weeks! All stage schedules and maps are updated on the wakarusa website now. Saturday i will literally be at the stage from noon (chicago afrobeat project) till 4 in the morning (Ozric Tentacles)....barring food breaks. atleast thats the plan lol.....
i'm so fucking excited, but I'm a little pissed that i have to choose between hot buttered rum and sts9. i wanted to see both in their entirety. Oh well, thisll be a weekend to remember
Don't miss That 1 Guy's set. He is the most mind blowing creative force out there right now. I'll see you all there. -Mike
